Shane Warne or ‘Hollywood’ Shane as some like to call him is being honoured by the Melbourne Cricket Ground by inaugurating a statue of him at the stadium for his achievements on the field of cricket and his contribution to his country.
Warne last played a Test match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in 2006. He will be the latest edition to an already existing collection of statues honouring cricketers who have served Australia.
At present there are around 10 statues erected in the circumference of the MCG honouring cricket personalities like Sir Donald Bradman, Ron Barassi, Betty Cuthbert and others. The work on Warne’s Statue has already begun and it is expected that it will be
unveiled by the end of the next calendar year. Following the dismal performance of Australia in the second Test at Adelaide there were growing calls from cricket fans all over the country for the inclusion of Shane Warne in the side. Fans had dedicated entire
sites to Shane Warne asking him to come back to the side and save the Ashes for them.
However ‘Hollywood’ Shane dismissed all such talk as he was busy with the beautiful model and actress Elizabeth Hurley who was pictured with the former cricketer on a number of times. However, given his cricketing prowess, those in the cricketing fraternity
choose to ignore his adventures off the field to focus on his achievements in cricket that are quite handful.
Shane Warne enjoyed great moments playing at the MCG which included his only career Test hat-trick. "Shane's playing record is unparalleled and he will sit comfortably alongside the 10 sporting greats already outside the MCG," said MCC president David Meiklejohn.
Warne ended his career bagging 708 test wickets and 293 one-day international wickets taking his tally of international wickets to more than 1,000. He retired from international cricket at around the same time as the mechanical fast bowler Glenn McGrath
in January 2007 following Australia’s whitewash against England in the Ashes.
He however had said that he would be ready to make a comeback if his country was in need of his services. Despite those claims, he vaguely dismissed any possible chances of his return to International cricket despite the heavy loss http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 incurred in
Adelaide.
