Question:

MEDIA BIAS? Why is the lead story, GOP convention, police arrest at least 56, instead of the RNC convention?

I loaded up Yahoo News to see the latest on the hurricane and the RNC convention. Unlike the DNC convention their lead story was:

"Thousands protest GOP convention, police arrest at least 56"

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080901/ap_on_el_pr/cvn_convention_protests

Isn't it funny that they never lead with the DNC's story of, "Dozens arrested after clash near DNC site?"

And how many is a "dozen"... well it is 100. Yeah, that's right, twice as many arrested, not the lead story for the DNC, but certainly half that number the lead story for the RNC.

And people try to argue the news media isn't biased. If it wasn't for Fox News we'd never get the truth.

Simply amazing that this free country is so propagandized by the mainstream news media, that they take it as fact and never question the motives anymore.

  1. This is to be expected from the majority of liberally-biased media outlets. They vilify anyone who does not concur with their own single-minded, conformist agenda. BO is the current poster-boy for left-wing media zealots. The funny part about these lockstep liberal minds who embrace activism is that Sarah Palin was exactly this (an activist). She won her governorship by taking on big oil in her home state. They are too busy digging up (personal) dirt on her in a desperate attempt to make "The BO and Shaky Joe" ticket more viable. We can only hope that rational, traditional-thinking people are able to recognize this media smokescreen.

  2. Yahoo! news isn't exactly the "media."

And when Hillary was deciding to run, a GOP congresswoman "joked"--Let's shoot her now and end the suspense--or something to that effect.

THAT STORY completely disappeared from the internet!  Reich-wing censorship?

  3. Wow, lots of stuff here.

First of all, if you are going to blame anyone, blame the Associated Press. It wrote the story. Go to the source.

And it sounds like they are getting wildly divergent estimates about the number of demonstrators. That's never an easy subject to get a handle on. If they changed it, it is because the police changed it -- which the story says. I don't think you can call that bias. And most people think the AP is straight to the point of blandness in its actual reporting.

The WWMT story, from Western Michigan, also was an AP story.

Second, I just checked, and the lead story was how the convention started with an appeal for Gustav aid. It sounds like Yahoo makes judgments on what is at the top of its news list mostly on when it arrives. I don't know if a person makes that decision, or if it is all automated.

  4. That is a fascinating fact, Honest Rob.  Yes, the mainstream media is very biased.

To T-Lee, you did not even address the question as to why mainstream media reports on the arrests at the RNC which is much smaller than the amount of people arrested at the DNC convention.  It is as though you figure you can avoid the truth by an attack that has nothing to do with the original question.  And no, I have never heard Fox news say that or indicate it in any way.  Maybe you were watching another station or dreaming?

  5. FOX News??? Fox sucks, this is the same channel that called Barak Obama's wife his " baby momma" This is a pretty low statement for a national news station.

  6. Of course, they're biased.  Fox gets this bad rep that they're biased to the right but it's not the case if you follow any of the major media networks news.  You'll see that Fox is the most balanced in comparison to the other Liberally biased news media networks.  Take a look at this study from George Mason University...
