The Melbourne F.C. is about as popular as a can of no name baked beans, nobody likes them and nobody really hates them . The AFL is trying to shunt Nth Melbourne, north , but in reality Melbourne is a bigger embarrasement, having failed to win a flag in 43 years, while North have won 4. Over many years they have been tagged as the club with supporters who head to the ski slopes in winter in their Range Rovers and Volvo's. They Share the name of the town known as the sporting capital of Australia with the greatest sports stadium in the world , which once was their exclusive home ground, but now MELBOURNE F.C.have amounted to 'nothing' for too long. They had a great chance to lift their profile by appointing Kevin Sheedy as coach but opted for a no namer in Bailey Dean or no sorry maybe its Dean Bailey. Since 2004 they have finished 7, 8, 7, and 14 and their only claim to fame is playing Collingwood on the Queens Birthday weekend , are they the AFL disaster ?

  1. I totally agree with you Dennis.

Melbourne FC are an embarrassment to AFL.  In some ways, they do represent Aussie football to the public since they ARE the MELBOURNE FC but their fans are pathetic.

Wish the AFL would ship them off to Tassie and allow Nth Melbourne to stay and represent what true footy and fans mean to us Melbournians.

  2. YOU ON THE MONEY HERE MATE; their on field record over that time is shocking, flag wins i mean, their supporters don't support, its like some one said, they broke even, they just dont have enough support, like north, saints and the dogs,  some of these 4 clubs wont be here in 20-25 years, the support goes to the bigger clubs, always has, always will, its just fact, how many people do you know that barracks for these teams, then how many barrack for rich, coll, carl, ess and geel, theres your answer, now i am talking about the general population of Victoria folks too, not Sydney where they still call the umps, refs.

  3. Oh that should arc 'em up Dee - all those Melbourne supporters.  Heeeelllloooo - calling all Melbourne supporters ...oh p**p they're all up at Lakes Entrance for the weekend in their 6 metre Bay Cruisers.

43 years is an awfully long time without a flag.  I think any team that goes more than 44 should be eliminated from the competition automatically, without appeal (44? - that's a random number I just chose).  Fortunately it's only 2 months since our last flag so we're safe for a while :-)

It can't be long before they're under pressure again to move.  Since Melbourne's so h**l bent on getting the Brumbies off us, perhaps we could do a swap and take the Demons here in Canberra.  Got a nice, recently upgraded oval vacant.  Hardly used by previous tenants and it has a flag pole that's never been used!

  4. The Dees are like a yo yo one year they are up, and the next they are near the bottam, they need to put a few good years together

  5. We don't head to Lakes Entrance, more like Sorrento and Portsea for all you ferrals.

Did Geelong not win the flag last year after 44 years of no grand final wins?:

I predict that we will win in the next 5 years the grand final, we will win it before Collingwood does again, (THUMBS DOWN HEADING MY WAY FROM THE PIE SUPPORTERS)

But who cares at least we are what footballs all about "TRADITION"

Only 4 thumbs down, thought I'd get more than that, especially from a certain Collingwood supporter.

  6. no not really

that award has to go to the swannnnnnnnnies

20 years in sin city and only 1 flag, all the money time and effort, fixing draws and refs decisions to get them over the line week after week

they will continue to be the biggest embarrassment to the afl even more than Benny

  7. It has been a disappointing time for the Dees (Oh sorry Melbourne). They try to distance themselves from the Demons in the 150th year of existance. This team needs a total makeover.

In the new AFL of profit Melbourne struggles. Hawthorn posted a $3 million proit for the year. Even Richmond who finished last came up with a $1 million profit. Melbourne broke even. How does this happen with new TV rights pumping money to every team? This looks bad for the people controlling the money at the club.

Melbourne's identity has always been the Demons. In such a banner year for the club they are moving away from this. The Asian market has issues with Demons. Why not try to shoreup the local market first. Other clubs memberships have overtaken Melbourne's leaving them near the rear of the pack.

Each week we see development to assist on field performance with other clubs. Carlton, Richmond (2) and StKilda in the last 8 weeks have all announced plans for multimillion dollar upgrades to their facilities. When were Melbourne's last upgrade? They still use a facility that is outdated with no strategies to improve it.

On field they were terrible. The coach goes and a commitee is set up to look for a new coach. The commitee was chaired by Garry Lyon a great of the club. Everything I have heard suggests it was his decision to recommend Mr Bailey. Garry has never coached. He has a great knowledge of the game, but other people may have been more qualified. Dean is apparently a great coach, but has come from a system that has everything. He may not get what he needs to be successful.

  8. OK,lets get real im no lover of the Melbourne football club but i don't think they are an embarrasment same as i don't think any of the melbourne clubs are an embarrasment, yes they have rich supporters although not all,and yes they have money issues like a number of Melbourne clubs and yes success hasn't come in spades of late (neither has collingwood deedubya-1 in 50 yrs) and they probably are in the disaster category but they are also one of the oldest clubs in the world and belong at the G so lets just hope they stay there and don't fall under the sight of the crook dimetriou and the AFL who are intent on cleaning out a Melbourne based club.

  9. Because they are so up and down it's difficult for the AFL to get rid of them. Last season they were bad, but this season they could be back up near or in the 8.  I know it sounds stupid, but that has been the form for the last decade.

Daniher coached them for 10 years i think, and they made finals at least 4 times. You can't move someone away or get rid of them with that record. I'm not sure of the membership either, maybe they have good membership ????

And as you said they were the exclusive residents for many years and would have had good takings from the gate in that time too.

It's the memberships and cash at the club which saves a club from moving, ........... it is however the performance that guarantees that membership. I think it will take a few more seasons of finishing in the lower part of the ladder before they try to move them ........ disaster or not.
