See im 16 turning 17 in september, and being that as it is im saving up for a Kawasaki Ninja 250R.

My mom made a deal with me, before i got a job, that if i saved up for a motorcycle than i could get one..

my father isnt around anymore to interfere with this, yet that leads me to be home to take care of my mom and brother.

I think getting this bike would be a really cool thing to do, but my mom is afraid i will kill myself since her close friend was killed on a motorcycle when she was younger.

whats your say on this?

  1. Wanted one got several over the years. Started with a Suzuki 50cc-then I got a 250cc Montgomery Wards Benelli. Next was a Suzuki GT550J Indy right after that I moved up to a Suzuki GT750K Le Mans. This lasted for a few years and then I got a Suzuki GS1100 EZ but my stepson folded that up for me. That was my last one. I am currently restoring the old GT750 to running condition.

I had a bad endo in 1973 that affects me 'till this day. I went over the bars at 45 mph and compressed the vertebra in my neck and broke my rt hip. It has taken from 1973 'till now to get to me. That one accident was on a dirt road with a street bike-my fault. I never had an accident on the road and I rode the white line every day to and from work in L.A.. I have ridden from San diego to Everett Wa several times and loved every bit of it. Just take it easy and don't get in over your head and you should be fine. Good luck.

  2. sure did.... but with all that speed u have to prove that you will not be tempted to test your bikes full potential... maybe once you have the experience under your belt

  3. as long as you drive safely you should be ok. people get killed even while crossing the road ! make sure you get one that hasnt been driven rashly or with a high mileage

  4. One of the best things you  can do is to start off by taking the Motorcycle Safety Foundation coarse or MSF.  It only takes a couple of days and may even make your insurance cheaper.  I suggest googling MSF and the state you live in to find local listings of availability.

Best of all your mother's mind may be put at ease about all of it if she knows that you are approaching this from a mature stand point.

Then get out there and enjoy the ride!

  5. You need to live your own life. If you shoulder the complete responsibility for you Father, then you are going to regret not having lived your life as a teenager. It is admirable to act as the head of the family and maybe you should act to some degree, but you can't live your life as if you are going to surely die when you ride a MC. Just keep in mind while you ride that others don't see you very well and always have an out if a situation should arise. Keep a safe distance from other cars and keep out of other drivers blind spots. Keep it safe and you can have a lifetime of riding and still keep the family together now.
