I SEEN A 1955 SCOOTER IN THE MOVIE"A PRIZE OF GOLD" WITH RICHARD WIDMARK. ARE THE CABIN SCOOTERS STILL MADE. WHERE IN THE U.S.A. IS A DEALER OF NEW AND USED MODELS. WITH THE PRICE OF FUEL THIS WOULD BE A GREAT WAY TO TRAVEL.

  1. They haven't been manufactured for decades. Here is a 1956 model for you.

  2. yeah used to see one every now & then in the 50s. BMW's first cars were like that too, only the BMW had a big door that opened from the front, so if 4 guys picked one up & put the front against a building or wall the dude couldnt get in when he came back.

    if I remember right they had smokey 2 cycle engines & a top speed of 45 or 50 mph.

    I expect thats what we'll all be driving if the environmentalists get their way.

      

  3. They were never sold in the US.  I've seen them at car shows, though, and you're right, they might be great for commuting or 'personal' transportation.

    I think we are going to see some new innovations in small vehicles.  Ever see the Corbin Sparrow?  (Google it if you haven't).  Very similar concept.  An enclosed motorcycle with three wheels.

  4. They were known as bubble cars, but unstable over 40mph, and very little protection in an accident. My Uncle drove one, but he was killed when a lorry overturned on top of him.
