  1. MIT and Harvard get thousands and thousands of applications from Indian students seeking a lot of financial aid every year. Bottom line, you truly need to be one of the top students in India with national level achievements and honors. Each will maybe take 4 from the country giving significant aid. They are world class students with near perfect SAT scores as well. And given that they take so few, many very qualified students must be rejected.

If you really want to study in the US, much less if you want a full scholarship, you must apply way down the food chain from the ivy league schools. Realize that many kids in counrties all over the world want the same 8 schools. And all of these schools limit non Americans to about 15%. It is much harder to get in than for an American, and it's nearly impossible for Americans these days at top schools.

Most US schools consider ability to pay, so many of the internationals at US schools are the children of wealthy business people and politicians.

The trick for Indians needing lots of money is to apply to schools they are overqualified for. Try posting your information on College Confidential, they have an international board where you will find many internationals who have tried for the ivies and can tell you if you have what it takes.

    Good luck!
