MLB 2007-2008 trades??????

Who would the division leaders be if these trades happened in the offseason last year.

Yankees get Johan Santana

Tigers never got Edgar Renteria

Tigers got Hanley Ramirez and Miguel Cabrera, no Dontrelle Willis

Twins never got Delmon Young

White Sox never got Nick Swisher

D-Backs never got Dan Haren

Rangers never got Josh Hamilton

I think the Tigers would have won the AL Central, Yankees would have won AL East, Angels would have won the AL West, and Rays would have won the AL Wild Card. The Phillies would have won the NL East, the Cubs would have won the NL Central, the Dodgers would have one the NL West.

  1. good points made. Yankees should have gotten santana.

  2. Yankees get Santana: most likely a contender, but not a sure thing to take the division.

Tigers don't get Renteria: would make no difference

Tigers get Ramirez & Cabrera: if the Tigers landed Ramirez, they would have to give up a lot.  Maybe too much to lead the division.

Twins don't get Young: would make no difference

White Sox don't get Swisher: they'd be slightly worse but not enough for them to drop in the standings.

D-Back's don't get Haren: would hurt them substantially.

Rangers don't get Hamilton: they wouldn't be as good, but they're not going anywhere with him either.

  3. AL east 1  red sox 2 yankees 3 rays 4 blue jays 5 orioles

    AL central 1 twins 2 tigers 3royals 4 white sox 5 indians

AL west 1 angels 2 as 3 mariners 4 rangers

    NL east 1 phillies 2 mets 3 nationals 4 marlins 5 braves

    NL central 1 cubs 2 brewers 3 cardinals 4 reds 5 astros 6 pirates

    NL west 1 rockies 2 dodgers 3 d-backs 4 padres 5 giants

the yankees and tigers will battle for al wild card nl wild card brewers then cardinals then dodgers then d-backs finnaly mets who suck without johan

  4. Nothing really changed in your conclusion except the AL West and Central standing. (I think Dodger and Phillies will win the NL East  and NL West eventually anyway.)

Then, I don't agree with you. Johan won't change the Yankees standing because both Yankees and Johan were playing poorly this year. Tigers need pitching and they looked lost anyway in this season. They have a good line up, they are just not playing up to their potential.

  5. i agree with you

  6. I only disagree with your assumptions on two occasions.  The Tampa Bay Rays would still be leading the AL East because, though Yohan Santana would have been a great pick up for the Yankees, they have still have a miriad of injuries that have slowed their progress and cost them wins. I believe that the Yankees could have sqeaked through with the Wild Card though.  I believe that the Twins would have won the AL Central and not the Tigers.  The offense has just not been very consistent up and down the lineup for them to have won and their pitching, most of all Verlander, hasnt performed as expected either.  I do, however, agree with your other assumptions of what could have been.  Yet we have to consider that if those trades werent made in the offseason, then others may have been made at the trade deadline and could have swung the tide for any of these teams.
