MLB 2011: Opening Day excitement
Do you seriously think it is the media that generates intense interest in one of the universally acknowledged fantastic sporting events, Major League Baseball? Or it is the passionate love of the game that attracts the ardent fans to it? Yes. Your supposition
is flawlessly right. It is both. But the latter outweighs the former. The overly excited crowd that you see in the ground does not come to rid themselves of the tedium that life causes.
Welcome, to one of the most exciting events of the baseball calendar. The Spring Training has paved the way for a real start of a widely anticipated MLB Regular Season. The excitement that Opening Day has caused is expected and pretty obvious, not exaggerated
by the media.
In order to keep optimism intact from a potentially devastating shock that invariably comes with the unexpectedly bad performances of the players, different clubs have gone for cutting players with impunity.
This season has another rather unusual feature. It will start on Thursday which is rather uncommon. You have seasons beginning with Sundays. Does this add another flavour to it? An off day from work is what the fans might seriously be considering to watch
with fascination the season they had so eagerly waited for.
Anyone who does not retain the memory of the 1976 season, a quick flashback will serve the purpose. Yankees at the Brewers and Astros at the Reds were the teams to formally begin the season in the same year.
New York Yankees are hosting the Tigers on Thursday in the Bronx and in the capital the Washington Nationals will confront the Braves. Four other Openers shall follow as the preceding matches will stir interest and enthusiasm.
On the same day, if you have already thought this is enough for fun, shall the cheerful fans brace themselves for a much awaited encounter: The San Francisco Giants will take on the Los Angeles Dodgers in the latter’s home ground.
The following day will commence with no less than an 11-game Friday. This will be formally the season’s busy week.
Baseball undoubtedly remains rich in terms of surprises and enjoyment it offers. The thrill shall perpetuate unto an ostensible eternity. The elation will culminate with something more exciting when Chicago Cub will throw down their gauntlets against Pittsburg
Pirates at Wrigley Field.
The curtain-raising day usually arouses passion that gets its stimulus when the rival teams take on each other. When the impatient but passionate fans throng the stadiums to see with awe their favorite teams play. So whether you are watching it on TV or
ecstatically rushing to the stadium, you are all set for an amazing game.
The excitement of Opening Day in baseball is a time to look ahead and forget about the mistakes made by teams and players in the previous season. It is a time to start fresh and each team is equal, having the same opportunity of playing hard and trying to
win as many games as possible to make it to the post-season. All teams have one thing on their mind and that is to survive the regular season and somehow make it to the coveted World Series.
It will be interesting to see which teams come out strong and which teams fall flat. All the predications and anticipation come together on a single day for baseball, and that is Opening Day.
