MLB All-Star Game: An overview of the rosters – Part 5
Justin Verlander’s consistent hard work at the mound paid-off when he got a call to the AL pitching staff for the All-Star encounter. He has been impressive with the pitching and his arm has supported him too. He has managed 138 strike-outs in 19 outings
at an ERA of just 2.26. Verlander has already recorded 11 wins with the second-half of the season yet to play. With two shut-outs in four completed games, his arm strength cannot be challenged.
Jered Weaver has been a class act for the Los Angeles Angels this season. He is capable of doing it anywhere. The 2011 season has been awesome for Weaver with statistics that are hard to match. He has been awarded with the highest recognition that a player
dreams of. Weaver is among the pitching staff of the AL All-Star roster and there is not enough doubt why he should not be. With an ERA of 1.92 and 114 strike-outs and a win-loss record of 10-4, he is an automatic selection for any side. His arm is in full
swing currently, pitching an average of 115.4 pitches per game. If he manages to tackle injury concerns, he has the potential to be a permanent member of the AL pitching staff.
C.J. Wilson of Texas Rangers is another worthy addition to the star-studded AL roster for the July 12 All-Star Game. He joins the pitching squad after a gripping first-half of the season. In 18 starts, Wilson won eight games and lost just three. He has struck-out
109 batters thus far and at an ERA of 3.02, his pitching skills cannot be questioned. He throws 109.9 pitches per game on average and has registered one complete game this season. His experience will be a worthy addition to the AL bull-pen.
Aaron Crow from Kansas City takes his place in the pitching staff as a relief pitcher. Crow has been sensational in his first season at the Majors, pitching at an ERA of 1.96 and striking-out 41 batters in 41.1 innings. His win-loss record stands at 2-2
with eight games held thus far. These figures are sufficient for a place in the All-Star bull-pen.
Brandon League of Seattle Mariners got representation in the AL All-Star team as a relief pitcher. This selection cannot be challenged given his record at the mound in his role. With 23 saves in 39 games accompanied by a win, League had all the credentials
necessary for a selection. He has managed 25 strike-outs in 36.2 innings which are sufficient with his role as a relief pitcher. He has seven years of experience to back his skill and the AL line-up will have all to gain from this experience campaigner.
With the stardom status that accompanies the AL All-Star team, the fans will be expecting something special from their heroes. Chase Field is expected to entertain a capacity crowd on July 12 where fans from around the nation will be present to cheer their
favoured players. With the likes of Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez in the line-up for the AL, the fans can expect fireworks in the field. Josh Beckett will be fired-up to prove his starting abilities to the nation. The game, friendly in nature, is expected
to be played in the best spirit offering much more than just a game to the fans.
