MLB: An Overview of the Most Popular Teams – Part 2
Thousands of fans assemble at Yankees stadium to cheer their heroes. In addition, there are thousands who follow the team through electronic media, television and social websites alike. A survey was carried out to see how many people regularly follow the
Yankees through social websites and it was found that 1,522,220 people were linked to the Yankees’ page on various websites. This number is at least half a million more than any other MLB team.
Currently, the Yankees’ have a star-studded roster. The top names include the likes of Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Mark Teixeira, CC Sabathia, Mariano Rivera, Curtis Granderson and Robinson Cano among many others. All of these are household names and it
would be difficult to accept if a person who knows something about baseball does not know these stars.
Rodriguez, commonly known as A-Rod, is one of the highest paid baseball players ever. His statistics support his contract money of $32-million annually. He is in line to become the player with most home-runs, or at least finish among the top four of all-time.
He is a hitting machine and is an attraction for people who enjoy the ball being skied out of the park. Although he has not been among the home-run leaders this year, his charisma continues to haunt even the top pitchers in business. He hails from New York
City and is thus one of the most popular topics in NYC.
Derek Jeter made history when he became the first player in the history of New York Yankees to complete 3000 hits. He accomplished the feat this season to become the 28th player in the group of players who have achieved this landmark in baseball
and 14th to do it with one team. His quality of play is not easy to match, be it at short-stop or at the plate. He has and continues to win the hearts of many with his gentleman style of play. One of the players whom history will remember as the
best!
21st century baseball is entirely different from what used to be the style of play in the 20th century. The batters are now more inclined towards the big hits rather than tapping the ball for hard-earned singles and combining team-work
to complete runs. With this aggressive style of play, the pitchers had to adapt and invent new varieties to halt the hits. One player who has undoubtedly excelled in doing so is CC Sabathia of the Yankees. Sabathia stands at 6ft 7in and has the entire arsenal
to ruffle any side single-handed. He leads the Yankees’ bull-pen and has been doing so since he stepped foot in the Majors.
Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson proved their fame when they were elected by fans to the American League All-Star side. Granderson has won his followers with his powerful hitting and Cano possesses an elite style of play. Together they have taken the
Yankees to the next level and now control the reins of the team as Jeter and A-Rod near the end of their illustrious careers.
The Yankees have continued to rule the baseball world since its inception and more aggressively since the past decade as the world came together helped by technology and media. The team continues to produce star performers and it would not be a surprise
if their popularity increases with the passage of time.
