MLB Awards to be announced next week – MLB News
Major League Baseball’s individual awards will be announced from November 12 onwards. The events will be telecast live on television.
Voted by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America, the awards are individually given to the American League and National League’s Managers of the Year, Rookies of the Year, Cy Young and the Most Valuable Players.
Below are the names of the managers and the players who have won nomination for the Awards and the dates that the winners’ names will be formally made known:
On Monday, Mangers of the Year will be announced for both the American League and National League. Those who won nominations from the American League are Oakland Athletics’ Bob Melvin, Baltimore Orioles’ Buck Showalter and Chicago White Sox’s Robin Ventura.
For the National League, the nominees finalised are Dusty Baker of the Cincinnati Reds, Bruce Bochy of the San Francisco Giants and Davey Johnson of the Washington Nationals.
The American League and National League Rookies of the Year Award will then be announced on Tuesday, November 14.
From the American League, it is Texas Rangers’ Yu Darvish, Yoenis Cespedes of Oakland Athletics and Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels who have been nominated for AL Rookie of the Year Award.
Reds’ Todd Frazier, Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals and Arizona Diamondbacks’ Wade Miley have been nominated for the National League Rookie of the Year Award.
On November 15 Cy Young Awards will be announced for both the leagues. Final Candidates from the NL are Los Angeles Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw, Washington Nationals’ Gio Gonzalez and R. A. Dickey of the New York Mets.
From American League, those nominated are Tampa Bay Rays’ David Price, Detroit Tigers’ Justin Verlander and Los Angeles Angels’ Jered Weaver.
The American League and National League Most Valuable Players awards will be announced on Thursday, November 16.
The top 5 nominations from the American League are that of Texas Rangers’ Adrian Beltre and Josh Hamilton, Detroit Tigers’ Miguel Cabrera, New York Yankees' Robinson Cano and Los Angeles Angels' Mike Trout.
Final candidates for the National League for the Most Valuable Player Award are Milwaukee Brewers’ Ryan Braun, San Diego Padres’ Chase Headley, Pittsburgh Pirates’ Andrew McCutchen, St. Louis Cardinals’ Yadier Molina and San Francisco Giants’ Buster Posey.
The suspense surrounding the awards will see its culmination from Monday onwards when the winners’ names are announced. Since it is for the first time that the awards will be broadcast live, a huge audience is expected to follow them.
