MLB BREAKING NEWS - New York Mets Francisco Rodriguez is out for the season
New York athletes seem to be in a rumble these days; first the New York Police arrested the NBA newbie Lance Stephenson for an assault on his girlfriend, followed by The New York Giants star player Eli Manning getting his head busted open after a miscommunication with is fellow teammate. Now the 4-time MLB All-Star player Francisco Rodriguez tore his thumb ligament after in a brawl with his father in-law.
Francisco’s injury was revealed after a run through the MRI at the club. The medical staff recommended Mets that Francisco underwent a surgery on his ligament. According to the rumours the 28-year old most likely injured his finger during the post-game, when his girlfriend’s 53-year-old father, Carlos Pena yelled at him saying “You can’t talk to my daughter that way.” Various sources said after that the pitcher hit the old man.
The NYPD told the media, before Venezuela native pinned Pena to the floor he banged his head against the wall and punched him repeatedly. Carlos Pena stated he had said nothing to the hot-headed pitcher and was in a lot of pain last night but was feeling much better today.
Rodriguez was suspended by the Mets for two consecutive games after they were informed of his indiscretion. He was charged with second-degree harassment and third-degree assault. However, he was released on his own recognizance the same very day.
Daian Pena, girlfriend of Rodriguez told the press she was not ready to talk to him, and their kids were unsafe around him due to his history of domestic violence, which his lawyers consider accusations.
The New York Mets told the press a few hours ago that Francisco Rodriguez will not be joining the team in Texas.
Jerry Manuel general manager for the Mets exclaimed how disappointed he was and discouraged. He told the reporters that Francisco will probably miss most of the season as he does not know how long it will take for him to recover.
"When you get this kind of news it's ... we've just been through a lot. We seem to continue to have difficulties keeping things from — having these types of injuries or such setbacks. Every year it seems like we get a little something here or there” said Jerry.
The Mets have decided to cut his payroll, which will cost him $125,683 out of his $11.5 million salary. However, next year the contract will raise his salary to $17.5 million, if he remains healthier for another 100 games.
Francisco Rodriguez played for the minor league baseball for the Lake Elsinore Storm before starting his professional career. In 2002 he made his professional debut with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and took them to win five postseason games. He took the team to win the World Series championship the same year.
