Question:

MLB Divisional Winners?

Does anyone know, historically, if a team wins in a division with the most teams over .500 (a strong division) does that translate into a trip to the World Series? For example, today (8.20.08) the Tampa Bay Rays and the Chicago Cubs both have four teams over .500 in their divisions...does this mean the likelihood of a Tampa - Chicago World Series is greater?

  1. I think it will be Rays and Brewers ( NL Central with 4 teams above .500 and The AL East 4 Teams above .500).

  2. That's a pretty interesting point, but I don't think the team with most wins in a division naturally translates them making or winning the world series. Even though if they're in a good division it means they've been tested the most and can probably handle the more difficult games in the playoffs.

    Interesting research.

  3. Yeah i would say that is true.
