MLB Feature: Detroit Tigers look to dominate
The Detroit Tigers are a tremendously talented team. Last year they managed to defeat the New York Yankees in the 2011 American League Division Series (ALDS). Unfortunately the Tigers were eliminated in the 2011 American League Championship Series (ALCS)
against the surging Texas Rangers.
The Tigers know how to win and they have made an offseason move that has the rest of the American League taking notice. Prince Fielder has been signed on with a mega contract and now the Tigers are looking stronger than ever. The Tigers do not want a repeat
of last season and are keeping their sights on the likes of the Rangers and Yankees.
All of the major offseason activity revolved around the American League. Players like Albert Pujols went to the Los Angeles Angels and as mentioned earlier, slugger Prince Fielder found a place with the Detroit Tigers. It is obvious from these offseason
moves that teams like the Tigers are not taking any chances when it comes to taking on the Yankees or the Rangers in the postseason. Detroit wants to win, pure and simple.
The hard working New York Yankees are always ominous in the Division. The team has some of the most talented players in the League. Nobody in Major League Baseball underestimates the power and professionalism of the Yankees. However, with other teams in
the American League gaining some significant strength, clubs like the Angels are also a potential threat for the Tigers. Before getting ahead of ourselves, the Tigers, like all the other teams in the League still have a long arduous regular season ahead. The
team will be looking to stay healthy and focused to finish strong and get into a possible postseason position.
For the Tigers, this year will not be a walk in the park. Every team is gunning for a good season with some decent results. As Spring Training is starting in a few days, we will get a good understanding of which team is looking good early on. The fans and
the critics will be scrutinizing every move the Tigers make. The recent acquisition of Prince Fielder is considered by some as being a risky move by the team. The Tigers did very well last season without the likes of Fielder and some pundits see his signing
as a potential waste of much needed resources. However, one fact is certain, if Fielder does manage to fire and hit form, his acquisition can be considered as one of the best moves made by any of the top tier teams in the League.
The Tigers will be hoping to dominate this year as they are obviously riding some serious winning momentum from last season. Spring Training will give the team a good opportunity to show off their extreme talent and unsettle some of the other teams in the
League. As Fielder takes the helm of the Tigers, it will be very exciting to see if the team can take charge and battle it out with the Yankees and the Rangers for a place in the World Series. It will be a long road that the Tigers will have to travel as they
make their way through the upcoming regular season. The fans will be hoping that the Tigers can go the distance and bring home a coveted World Series title this year.
