MLB Player Profile: Denard Span
Minnesota Twins’ outfielder, Denard Span displayed a radiant performance in preceding games as he hit number of home-runs and RBIs during second half of regular season. He also rated himself in top outfielders throughout his MLB career. Born on February
27, 1984, Span is an outfielder in Twins’ roster and stands 6ft with weight of 210 lbs.
The 27-year-old Span has only three years of experience in his professional career. He was a natural sportsperson and had great talent in baseball. Due to his amazing efforts in college baseball, he was geared up to make his place in the initial round of
MLB Draft during 2002.
Span did not sign any agreement after the MLB draft and become a free agent until the next two years as his contract was rejected from Colorado. After playing his debut game in the first round, Span earned much fame due to his exceptional performance against
the rivals and was also named in the top Baseball America’s lead-off hitters.
On August 15, 2002, Twins’ officials kept an eye on Span’s performance and added him in their 40-man MLB roster. He made his debut on similar day and executed particularly well throughout the minor league season. In 2003, Span was selected by Elizabethon,
where he proved his spot by having a rewarding performance in respective games.
Span performed extremely well in different Leagues and became the well-known player in Minor Leagues. He served all three years of his career with the Twins. Span was an ace for Twins roster due to his promising average. He also gave them some incredible
victories to the Twins.
He joined different mini leagues to improve his batting tactics. He became a part of Fort Myers Miracle in 2005 and then advanced to the New Britain Rock Cats. In the following years, he was moved to Twins Double-A associate. Span was selected in Rochester
Red Wings’ roster in 2007.
He was little bit shaky with the bat at the end of 2007 as he suffered some minor injuries and infections. After having a recovery from surgical treatment, Span retained his form and was able to play the spring training season in place of Carlos Gomez.
The weather of injuries happened with nonstop interval for Span as he experienced side meniscus in his right shoulder. He played a key role in his return game and smashed back-to-back home runs to give Twins a persuasive win. Span was sloppy at the start
of 2008 but then he recovered his form by joining bull-pen sessions and ended 2008 season with seven triples, six home runs, 47 RBIs and combined average of .294/.387/.432.
During 2009, Span batted with a full confidence and hit decisive RBIs with high grand slams. That season was most productive for him and the Twins. He had managed to raise his hitting average also during 2009 season. Span showed his stylish act in his fielding
as well. He gave the Twins some unbelievable victories also by making stunning catches at left and right-fields.
Span began his next season by having a new deal of five-year agreement worth $16.5-million. He also saved some crucial runs for his team. Span played frequently for the Twins as their veteran players suffered some injuries at that time.
April 2, 2010 was a memorable day in his professional career as Span struck his first home run and first hit of the regular season and gave the Twins an exciting win against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Span’s career has been dense and a slight dip in form is usual. However, he should express himself to be a muscular player with a strong recovery in this season to help the Twins to the postseason.
