MLB Player Profile: Vernon Wells – Los Angeles Angels’ key player
Vernon Wells is a Major League Baseball player belonging to the Los Angeles Angels. He made valuable contributions in his career with his remarkable efforts as he has won Gold Glove Awards and Silver Slugger Award. He is one of the players among highest
paid player of the league as he signed a contract above $100 million with an extension period increased until 2014.
Wells is an extremely talented baseball player. He has consistently performed for his team on the field. He started his Major League career in 2002 with the Toronto Blue Jays. Wells had a tremendous first season with the Blue Jays as he managed 23 home-runs
at an average of .275 with 100 RBIs and 87 runs.
He continued his brilliant performance in 2003 as he hit 33 home-run with a .317 average, 117 RBIs and 118 runs. Wells won the Gold Glove Award in 2004 and also in 2005.
2006 was one of Wells best seasons, as he managed to hit 32 home-runs at an average of .303 with 106 RBIs. However, his performance declined in 2007 and he suffered a broken wrist in 2008. He also suffered from a hamstring injuring before the 2009 season
which kept on the sidelines for a few weeks. However at the end of the 2010 season, Wells had 88 RBIs with 31 home-runs. He was batting at an average of .273 with 590 at-bats, 161 hits and he was at over 1,500 career hits.
In early 2011 he was traded to the Los Angeles Angels. After being traded, Wells commented on the trade at a press conference and said, “I am very excited to be a member of Los Angeles Angels, and now it’s my task to play a game with a hopeful spirit and
I try my level best to perform well in every game.”
Basically when Vernon started his game, he was assigned a centre fielding position then after watching his excellent match winning performance against Yankees last year, he was assigned a new task and place him as an outfielder. And later, he signed a contract
and later he also stated that his patience will be tested by that new assignment, but he will work according to his abilities but it is really a frustrating job for him.
The Angels are excited by their acquisition of such a tremendous player like Wells. He has the batting strength that the team has been searching for as the team is getting desperate for some type of success in the regular season with the hope to make it
to the playoffs. Vernon will be looking to put in a good performance for the Angels during Spring Training which is scheduled to start soon.
Spring Training will give the Angels the ideal opportunity to watch the performance of Wells and see how quickly he can adapt into the Los Angeles offence. The team will be looking for great things from this player as he has shown great promise with the
Blue Jays in the past. Vernon will be hoping to stay healthy and match fit during Spring Training. He will be given the responsibility of guiding the Angels during the upcoming 2012 regular season. The Angels are confident of Wells and are showing a lot of
faith in the player.
