MLB Power Rankings - Week 7 (Part 1)
The fact that the Philadelphia Phillies have gotten a little too familiar with the top spot in the Major League Baseball Power Ranking doesn’t seem to be bothering anyone. If it had then at least some team would’ve tried to knock them off the number one
spot, which has become their haven, for the past four weeks.
They currently have the best record in baseball, which stands at 25-14 even with their best men in the Disabled List.
The Cleveland Indians have claimed the number two spot again this week with a 24-13 record. Their offense didn’t get off to hot start in their first game of their series against the Seattle Mariners, but they didn’t fail to deliver when required, which can
be proved by a three run ninth inning homer from Travis Hafner.
The Tampa Bay Rays climb up one position to knock the New York Yankees off their number three spot with a 23-17 record. They might have won the spot but they can’t seem to win at the Tropicana Field Stadium, back at home. They recently lost two out three
games to the Baltimore Orioles.
The reigning World Series Champions, the San Francisco Giants have finally found their footing as they climb to the fourth position from their previous fourteenth spot with a 22-17 record. They had a shaky start but have managed to pick themselves up, which
can be proved by their very recent, six consecutive wins record.
Aubrey Huff is snapping out of his hitting drought, raising his slugging percentage to sixty-three points in the month of May. Pitching still remains the driving force in the team, just like the Phillies.
The Florida Marlins climb up from the eighth spot to reach the fifth one with a 23-16 record. They are currently second to the mighty Phillies in the race to be the leading team of the National League East.
They are the fourth best team in the National League at the moment even though their problems with Javy Vazquez don’t seem to be going away. Logan Morrison is back in the line-up and that could only result in wins for the Fish.
The New York Yankees fall down to the sixth spot from their previous number three position with a 20-18 record.
Alex Rodriguez is definitely on his way to a slow decline. In the first twenty games of the season he belted out five home runs and eighteen RBI’s. Now in his previous fourteen games he has only accumulated one home run along with a meagre four RBI’s.
The situation with Jorge Posada is definitely not going to be helping matters, as he suddenly wants an out of the line-up. That coupled with the Bronx Bombers sixth consecutive loss translates into things not going down too well for the Yanks.
