MLB Power Rankings - Week 7 (Part 2)
The Cincinnati Reds climb to the seventh position from their previous eleventh spot with a 23-17 record. They just swept the St. Louis Cardinals in the three game series and have managed to win nine out of their last eleven games.
The Reds have rekindled their fire, especially their catcher, Ramon Hernandez, who has belted out six home runs, out of which three, occurred in the duration of two days.
The St. Louis Cardinals fell down two spots from last week’s sixth position to land at 8th. With their 22-19 record they are on the top in National League Central.
Even though they got swept away miserably by the Reds, they made a comeback by defeating the National League East leader, the Phil’s and their pitching maestro Cliff Lee.
Their manager, Tony LaRussa definitely gave them a boost of confidence after he came back from his illness.
The Detroit Tigers reached the ninth position this week, which is quite an increase from last week’s sixteenth position. They are on a roll as they win their seventh consecutive game and their tenth game out of the last eleven that they have played.
Jhonny Peralta showed quite an improvement as well as he hit .529 throughout the week, which raised his season average to .307.
The Colorado Rockies have slipped down by five spots since last week to reach the tenth spot with a 20-18 record. They haven’t managed to belt out a multi-hit home run since May 4th but they did hit eleven consecutive solo home runs.
They are under .500 at home after quite some time, but things maybe improving soon, as they are performing well against the World Series Champions, the San Francisco Giants.
The Los Angeles Angels find themselves at the eleventh spot this week with a 22-19 record. Their slip from last week’s seventh position may be because their offense is being powered by the middle infielders only, namely, Howie Kendrick, Erick Aybar, and,
Maicer Izturis.
The Atlanta Braves are at the twelfth spot in the ranking with a 23-19 record. Martin Prado has been the force behind the team lately. He has been contributing with hits and runs more than anyone else. In the past six games he has accumulated twelve hits,
seven scored runs, three homers and eight RBI’s.
The Texas Rangers are at the thirteenth position with a 21-19 record. They seem to be finally getting their act together after suffering losses from the easiest of opponents.
The Rangers have always been an injury prone team and that can be easily proved by the fact that they are the first team since 2001 that have had all their Opening Day outfielders on the Disabled List before May 15th came around.
