MLB Power Rankings-Week 7 (Part 3)
The Oakland Athletics come at number fourteen with a 20-20 record. The Athletics have been hot and cold since the season started. After forty games the Athletics are .500 once again for the twelfth time.
They have six games lined up for them in the next eleven games and only time will tell if they’ll be able to keep up their performances with such a tight schedule.
Next are the Kansas City Royals at the fifteenth position, which is a three position slip from last week. Their current record stands at 20-19. They have the highest number of their steals on the league which is forty-seven.
They have brought about an evident change in their approach, and their new found aggressiveness is definitely paying off given that they have an eighty-five percent success rate.
The Boston Red Sox slip down one spot from last week to get the sixteenth position this week with a 20-20 record. After their historically disastrous start of the season, they are picking themselves up.
They have had their moments but there are times when they struggle as well. The just recently wrapped a successful series against the New York Yankees which is a step in the right direction.
The Toronto Blue Jays have the same record as the Red Sox, that is 20-20 but they are one position below the Sox in the power rankings.
However, their seventeenth position remains the same from last week. Jose Bautista is having quite a season this year but his numbers show that there is more potential in him that can be used for the teams benefit.
The Los Angeles Dodgers climb three spots to reach the eighteenth spot this week with a 19-22 record. Currently, they have 3.7 WAR (Wins Above Replacement). The team 2009 team managed to compile a 1.6 WAR all season.
The Baltimore Orioles are at the twentieth position this week with a 19-20 record.  Jake Arrieta remains unbeaten in his last seven starts going 4-0 with three no decisions. His ERA, which he complied during that time stands at 3.00.
The Pittsburgh Pirates slip down a spot from last week’s position to come at number twenty-one. Charlie Morton’s start has effectively blown away everyone with twenty-four strikeouts and the same number of walks in forty-six innings.
His ERA has been 3.13 in the duration of his pitching. This comes as a pleasant surprise and hopefully he will continue so his team could benefit from his new found confidence in pitching.
The twenty-second spot goes to the Washington Nationals, who currently have a 19-21 record. They are definitely struggling and Mike Morse has almost been replaced by Laynce Nix. Nix currently is on a seven game hitting streak high and averaged at .400 over
that span.
