MLB: Rangers Alexi Ogando’s World Series stint may come to an end
Manager Ron Washington will be reeling over his team’s loss to the San Francisco Giants in the 5th game of the World Series, but that doesn’t add up to the problems developing on the sidelines. The Texas Rangers’ skipper is now under great pressure
to steer his team around from a hitting slump, following a 4–0 thrashing by the National League Champions at the Rangers Ballpark.
Unfortunately, his troubles do not end there as the performance from the bullpen is lacking, in terms of good material play. Cliff Lee was the first victim of fatigue and weariness, and then it was the bullpen that performed miserably on the field. Now the
tides have turned on the batters and the previous problems have not been rectified, either.
A recent casualty to injury has come in the form of Alexi Ogando, who has been consistently performing for the team. On Sunday, during game 5, the relief pitcher was replaced at the top of the 6th inning after straining his left oblique. The Rangers’
player is set to have an examination and if the injury is confirmed, the bullpen ace may find himself out of the Major League Baseball World Series.
He retired five batters during the game but when he faced off against the Giants’ Cody Ross, he started to feel something different about his movement. He continued onwards and took out Ross, but after two pitches to Juan Uribe, the veteran pitcher had to
be excused from the fixture.
Concerning the incident, he said, “I was feeling perfectly fine in the first inning. When I got the first guy out, I started to feel something on my side. I was trying to throw my slider, and that's why I wasn't effective. It was more and more pain. I was
trying to get out of the inning, but the pain was too much”.
Regarding his status, the relieve pitcher further said, “It depends on the results. If they tell me it's the oblique, I cannot pitch any more. Let's see what comes up”.
