MLB Round up: Atlanta Braves defeat Washington Nationals 2-1 in three-game series
National League’s Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals both displayed an incredible battle in an electrifying three-game series. Braves did a spectacular job as they sealed a 2-1 victory in this series. Atlanta has had a tremendous season as they got
a pleasing Win-Loss record during the regular season.
Let us take a short summary:
Game 1 – March 31: Atlanta Braves 2 – Washington Nationals 0
Braves confirmed a 2-0 win in the first game, as Derek Lowe was incredible with his pitching. He pitched just over five innings and had six strike-outs in the Braves sensational victory. He said, “There was a lot of trying to figure each other out.”
Nationals’ batters looked immobilised in front of the tricky pitches and failed to add runs. Livan Hernandez pitched well for the Nationals but that was not enough to steal a win for his team. He put in a brilliant performance as he was able to strike-out
only three batters during his 77 pitches and gave away four hits, two runs, one home-run and two earned runs with an ERA of 2.84.
Game 2 – April 2: Atlanta Braves 3 – Washington Nationals 6
In the second game, Nationals outshined the Braves 6-3. Nationals’ starter, John Lannan threw the ball in correct line as he pitched five innings and permitted just one run with an ERA of 1.80. Lannan struck-out three batters on his 68 pitches.
Nationals’ manager, Jim Riggleman said, “I don't want to put any numbers on it. When he was at his best, his healthiest, he was able to do some good things.”
Braves’ batters struggled a lot and scored just three runs throughout the game. Tommy Hanson had a shaky day with the ball as he threw just over three innings with an ERA of 7.36 and permitted five hits, four runs, three earned runs, two walks and one home-run
on his 68 pitches. He struck-out just one batter on his respective pitched innings.
Game 3 – April 3: Atlanta Braves 11 – Washington Nationals 2
During the final game of the series, Nationals lost 11-2. Braves’ left-fielder, Martin Prado shined as he hit one RBI including one run and went 3-for-5 with an average of .214. Riggleman said, “It had the feel of a five- or six-run deficit instead of a
two-run deficit because we weren't playing good baseball.”
Nationals’ batting were able to score only two runs in the series decider game. Jayson Werth and Danny Espinosa both contributed two runs jointly to cut the deficit of their team. However, Atlanta was just too strong as they dominated the game throughout.
Braves clinched the three-game series 2-1 after beating the Nationals.
