MLB Round up: Baltimore Orioles beat Detroit Tigers 2-1 in three-game series
American League’s Detroit Tigers and Baltimore Orioles both went head-to-head in an electrifying three game series. Orioles did an eye-catching job as they confirmed a 2-1 victory in this series after defeating the Tigers convincingly.
Let us take a brief overview of these exciting games:
Game 1 – April 4: Detroit Tigers 1 – Baltimore Orioles 5
Orioles managed a 5-1 win in the first game, as Jake Arrieta was incredible with his pitching. He threw his respective six innings with an ERA of 1.50 and struck-out three batters in the Orioles victory. Baltimore’s manager, Buck Showalter said, “Robby seems
to have been able to dial up what was needed, whether it be a stolen base, a walk, whatever. He's got a feel for being able to challenge the moment.”
On the other side, Tigers’ batters were able to score only one run right throughout the entire game. Rick Porcello pitched well for the Tigers but that was not enough to steal a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only four batters during his 81
pitches and gave away one walk, nine hits, five runs, one home-run and five earned runs with an ERA of 9.00.
Game 2 – April 6: Detroit Tigers 7 – Baltimore Orioles 3
In the second game, Tigers outshined the Orioles 7-3. Tigers’ starter, Justin Verlander pitched the ball in an accurate line as he threw eight innings and allowed just four hits with an ERA of 3.86. Verlander struck-out nine batters on his 108 pitches.
Verlander said, “I definitely feel better at this point than I have in the past two years. Definitely feel like I am throwing the ball better than I did at this point the last couple years.”
Orioles remained unsteady with the bat and scored just three runs until the end of the game. Brad Bergesen had a shaky day with the ball as he pitched just over three innings with an ERA of 4.91 and surrendered five hits, four runs, two earned runs, two
walks and one home-run on his 89 pitches.
Game 3 – April 7: Detroit Tigers 5 – Baltimore Orioles 9
During last game of the series, Tigers lost 9-5. Orioles’ designated hitter Vladimir Guerrero shined as he struck two RBIs and went 2-for-5 with an average of .240.
Tigers’ batters added five runs in the series decider. Austin Jackson, Will Rhymes, Brennan Boesch and Alex Avila each displayed their contribution to post five runs for the Tigers on the score-board. The Orioles put in a tremendous performance as they fought
hard throughout the game to get an impressive win over the surging Tigers. A brilliant team effort gave Baltimore the series win.
