MLB Round up: Cincinnati Reds sweep Milwaukee Brewers 3-0
National League’s Cincinnati Reds and Milwaukee Brewers, both went head-to-head in a thrilling three game series. The Reds did an impressive job as they brushed aside the Brewers 3-0 in this series. Cincinnati has had a stupendous season as they attained
an exemplary Win-Loss record during the regular season 2011.
Let us take a review of these games.
Game 1 – March 31: Milwaukee Brewers 6 – Cincinnati Reds 7
Reds managed a 7-6 win in the first game, as Edinson Volquez was impressive with his pitching. He had five strike-outs with an ERA of 7.50 in the Reds impressive victory. Reds’ manager, Dusty Baker was excited after this victory as he said, “I've never seen
an Opening Day like that. I've seen a guy hit a homer to start the game, but I've never seen the first two guys hit homers.”
Conversely, Brewers' batters posted six runs in the whole game. Yovani Gallardo pitched well for the Brewers but that was not enough to grab a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only four batters on his 101 pitches.
Game 2 – April 2: Milwaukee Brewers 2 – Cincinnati Reds 4
In the second game, Reds outclassed the Brewers 4-2. Reds’ starter, Travis Wood threw the ball in good line as he pitched seven innings and surrendered just one run, four hits, no walk, one home-run and one earned run on his 83 pitches. Wood had just seven
strike-outs with an ERA of 1.29.
Baker said, “We'll take every game we can get. It's a great start, going 2-0 against a team that you know is going to be there.”
Brewers’ left-fielder Ryan Braun and Erick Almonte were the only players who were able to score two runs jointly. Shaun Marcum had a shaky day with the ball as he threw just over four innings with an ERA of 5.79 and gave away four hits, four runs, five walks,
one homer and three earned runs on his 83 pitches.
Game 3 – April 3: Milwaukee Brewers 3 – Cincinnati Reds 12
During the last game of the series, Brewers lost 12-3. Reds’ second baseman Brandon Phillips shined as he had two runs including three RBIs and went 3-for-6 with an average of .286. Bronson Arroyo pitched his seven innings superbly to give the Reds a valuable
victory. He allowed just three runs, two home-runs, six hits and three earned runs.
Brewers’ manager, Ron Roenicke said, “Hey, they're playing really good right now. They played three great games.”
Rickie Weeks, Braun and Randy Wolf each singled to complete the three collective runs for the Brewers. A tremendous group effort kept the Reds on top throughout the exciting series.
