MLB Round up: Cleveland Indians sweep Minnesota Twins 3-0
American League’s Cleveland Indians and Minnesota Twins both went head-to-head in an inspiring three game series. Indians did a remarkable job as they defeated the Twins 3-0 in this series. Indians have had a perfect season so far as they maintained their
Win-Loss record during the regular season.
Let us take an overview of these inspiring games.
Game 1 - September 16: Cleveland Indians 7 – Minnesota Twins 6
Indians managed a 7-6 win in the first game, as Ubaldo Jimenez was terrific with his pitching. He had four strike-outs with an ERA of 4.56 in the Indians’ convincing victory. Indians’ designated hitter Jim Thome was energized after this win as he said, “Getting
a chance to come here and play here for the two years I did was very special. The crowd has always been great here. A little different competing against them, but that's part of the game too.”
On the other side, Twins were able to score six runs. Kevin Slowey pitched well for the Twins but that was not enough to get a victory for his team. He had just two strike-outs on his 90 pitches and gave away one home-run, seven hits, five runs and five
earned runs with an ERA of 6.51.
Game 2 - September 17: Cleveland Indians 10 – Minnesota Twins 4
In the second game, Indians outclassed the Twins 10-4. Indians’ starter, Jeanmar Gomez pitched the ball in accurate line as he threw six innings and surrendered only two runs, two walks, two earned runs and seven hits with an ERA of 3.78. Gomez had three
strike-outs on his 97 pitches.
Indians’ manager, Manny Acta said, “We already kind of yesterday put that behind us and knew that eventually it was going to come. Decided yesterday we were going to have our own little race here and try to finish second.”
Conversely, Twins’ batters were able to put in only four runs on the score-board right through the game. Anthony Swarzak had a shaky day with the ball as he pitched just over a single inning with an ERA of 4.52 and permitted seven hits, seven runs, one walk
and seven earned runs on his 54 pitches.
Game 3 - September 18: Cleveland Indians 6 – Minnesota Twins 5
During last game of the series, Twins lost by 6-5. Indians’ left-fielder Shelley Duncan shined as he hit triple RBIs and went 2-for-4 with an average of .274.
Twins’ Luke Hughes, Brian Dinkelman and Chris Parmelee each contributed five runs but a team effort was required to win the game and series equally. The Indians will have certainly gotten a confidence boost after sweeping the series.
