MLB Round up: Milwaukee Brewers sweep Cincinnati Reds 3-0
National League’s Milwaukee Brewers and Cincinnati Reds, both went head-to-head in an inspiring three game series. Brewers did a remarkable job as they defeated the Reds 3-0 in this series. Brewers have had an exemplary season so far as they attained their
Win-Loss record during the regular season.
Let us take an overview of this exciting series.
Game 1 - September 16: Milwaukee Brewers 6 – Cincinnati Reds 3
Brewers managed a 6-3 win in the first game, as Randy Wolf was terrific with his pitching. He had seven strike-outs with an ERA of 3.45 in the Brewers’ convincing victory. Prince Fielder was energized after this win as he said, “We'd been playing so well.
Unfortunately it (the slump) happened at the time we were trying to separate really far. We're still in good position, though.”
On the other side, Reds were able to add up just three runs. Bronson Arroyo pitched well for the Reds but that was not enough to steal a victory for his team. He was able to strike-out only two batters on his 114 pitches and gave away three walks, four home-runs,
five hits, five runs and five earned runs with an ERA of 5.34.
Game 2 - September 17: Milwaukee Brewers 10 – Cincinnati Reds 1
In the second game, Brewers outclassed the Reds 10-1. Brewers’ starter, Yovani Gallardo pitched the ball in accurate line as he threw six innings and surrendered only one home-run, two hits, one run, two walks and one earned run with an ERA of 3.60. Gallardo
had 13 strike-outs on his 101 pitches.
Speaking to reporters, Gallardo said, “I had a little trouble with my fastball early in the game. It got better as the game went on. I felt like I had a good curveball. I was able to throw it to both sides of the plate, and I was able to make the big pitch
when I had to.”
Conversely, Reds’ batters were able to put in only one run on the score-board right through the game. Edinson Volquez had a shaky day with the ball as he pitched just over six innings with an ERA of 5.87 and permitted six hits, five runs, three walks and
five earned runs.
Game 3 - September 18: Milwaukee Brewers 8 – Cincinnati Reds 1
During last game of the series, Reds lost 8-1. Brewers’ centre-fielder Carlos Gomez shined as he hit double RBIs and went 2-for-5 with an average of .218. Brewers’ manager, Ron Roenicke said, “Guys still felt good coming in.”
Jeff Francisco was the only player to take a single run for Reds but a team effort kept the Brewers on top right through the series.
