MLB Round up: New York Yankees defeat Detroit Tigers 2-1 in three-game series
American League’s New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers both went head-to-head in an exhilarating three game series. Yankees did a dazzling job as they confirmed a 2-1 win after defeating the Tigers in this series.
Let us take a short summary of these games.
Game 1 – March 31: Detroit Tigers 3 – New York Yankees 6
Yankees managed a 6-3 victory in the first game, as CC Sabathia was incredible with his pitching. He threw his respective six innings with an ERA of 3.00 and struck-out seven batters in the Yankees victory. Detroit Tigers’ Jim Leyland said, “Their bullpen
and the long ball is what did us in today. I thought it was actually a decent game for the conditions. It was pretty rough.”
On the other side, Tigers’ batters yielded just three runs throughout the whole game. Justin Verlander pitched well for the Tigers but that was not enough to steal a win for his team. He was able to strike-out eight batters during his 114 pitches and gave
away four walks, three hits, three runs, one home-run and three earned runs with an ERA of 4.50.
Game 2 – April 2: Detroit Tigers 6 – New York Yankees 10
During the second game, Yankees outclassed the Tigers 10-6. Yankees’ starter, A.J. Burnett threw the ball in right line as he threw five innings and allowed only three runs with an ERA of 5.40. Burnett struck-out six batters on his 86 pitches.
Speaking to reporters, Burnett said, “It's a positive step. I was able to use my second and third pitches. Anytime our offense opens up like that it really helps me out.”
Tigers were unsteady with the bat and were able to contribute just six runs until the end of the game. Brad Penny had a shaky day with the ball as he pitched just over four innings with an ERA of 16.62 and permitted seven hits, eight runs, eight earned runs
and four walks on his 89 pitches.
Game 3 – April 3: Detroit Tigers 10 – New York Yankees 7
During the last game of the series, Yankees lost 10-7. Tigers’ designated hitter Brennan Boesch shined as he hit four RBIs including four runs and went 4-for-4 with an average of .625. Miguel Cabrera said, “You can't sleep with these guys. We score runs;
they score runs back so you got to play perfect with these guys.”
Yankees contributed seven runs in the series finale. Mark Teixeira, Robinson Cano, Nick Swisher and Jorge Posada each scored collective runs to keep the Yankees alive. However, a brilliant team effort gave the Yankees the series win against the Tigers.
