MLB Round up: Oakland Athletics defeat Seattle Mariners 2-1 in three-game series
American League’s Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners both went head-to-head in a thrilling three game series. Athletics did a marvellous job as they got a 2-1 victory in this series. Oakland have had an excellent season so far as they attained a decent
Win-Loss record during the regular season.
Below is the overview of these games.
Game 1 - September 26: Oakland Athletics 2 – Seattle Mariners 4
Mariners sealed a 4-2 victory in the first game, as Jason Vargas was remarkable with his pitching. He tossed his individual eight innings with an ERA of 4.25 and struck-out 10 batters in the Mariners victory. Mariners’ manager, Eric Wedge said, “This is
a guy we believe in. I feel like he's going to have a real good year for us next year.”
On the other side, Athletics’ batters were able to score only two runs right through the game. Brandon McCarthy pitched well for the Athletics but that was not enough to steal a win for his team. He was able to strike-out six batters during his 114 pitches
and gave away two homers, eight hits, four runs and four earned runs with an ERA of 3.32.
Game 2 - September 27: Oakland Athletics 7 – Seattle Mariners 0
In the second game, Athletics outclassed the Mariners by 7-0. Athletics’ starter, Trevor Cahill pitched the ball in right line as he pitched seven innings and permitted just four hits and one walk with an ERA of 4.16. Cahill struck-out seven batters on his
102 pitches.
Speaking to reporters, Cahill said, “It was just an inconsistent season, I guess. It started off real strong and kind of went down hill from there.”
Mariners were score-less in the complete game as Athletics’ pitchers threw superbly. Blake Beavan had a shaky day with the ball as he threw five innings with an ERA of 4.27 and permitted eight hits, seven runs, two walks, seven earned runs and two home-runs.
Game 3 - September 28: Oakland Athletics 2 – Seattle Mariners 0
In the last game of the series, Mariners lost 2-0. Athletics’ right-fielder Jai Miller shined as he hit double RBIs and went 1-for-4 with an average of .250. He said, “It's always good to leave a good taste with the people making the decisions ... and let
them know I can come up here and help the team.”
Mariners’ batters again failed to add any run in the series decider. Scott Sizemore and Miller both contributed two runs to give their team a convincing lead. However, a tremendous group effort gave the Athletics the series win.
