MLB Round up: Philadelphia Phillies clean sweep Atlanta Braves 3-0
National League’s Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves, both went head to head in an exciting three game series. Phillies did a marvellous job as they crushed the Braves 3-0 in this series. Philadelphia has had a superb season so far as they achieved
a satisfactory Win-Loss record in the second half of the current season.
Let us take an overview of these exciting games.
Game 1, September 5: Philadelphia Phillies 9 – Atlanta Braves 0
Phillies managed a 9-0 win in the first game, as Cliff Lee was impressive with his pitching. He had six strike-outs with an ERA of 2.47 in the Phillies’ convincing victory. Lee was excited after this credible win as he said, “I guess that's pretty good.
It is what it is. Obviously that's a good thing anytime you pitch the whole game and not give up any runs. But I don't think this is a time to pat myself on the back.”
On the other hand, Braves’ batters got out without taking runs. Derek Lowe pitched well for Atlanta but that was not enough to whip a win for his team. He was able to strike-out four batters on his 98 pitches.
Game 2, September 6: Philadelphia Phillies 6 – Atlanta Braves 3
In the second game, Phillies outclassed the Braves 6-3. Phillies’ starter, Vance Worley threw the ball in good line as he pitched six innings and surrendered just two runs, seven hits, three walks, one home-run and two earned runs on his 108 pitches. Worley
had six strike-outs with an ERA of 2.86.
Phillies’ manager, Charlie Manuel had a huge ovation for Worley. Speaking to reporters, Manuel said, “We had to wait a while, but any time you win it makes it easier to swallow.”
Dan Uggla and Michael Bourn were the only two players who were able to put these three runs collectively on the score-board. Tim Hudson had a shaky day with the ball as he threw six innings with an ERA of 3.14 and gave away six hits, four runs, four walks,
one homer and four earned runs.
Game 3, September 7: Philadelphia Phillies 3 – Atlanta Braves 2
During the last game of the series, Braves lost by 3-2. Phillies’ left-fielder Raul Ibanez shined as he made two runs including a single RBI. He enhanced his batting average to a great extent. Ross Gload added the last run to give the Phillies a valuable
victory. Speaking to reporters, he said, “For me, it's huge because I haven't had many. I'll take it. It's big for me, bigger for the team.”
Jason Heyward and Bourn both scored two runs for the Braves. But a team effort kept the Phillies on top throughout the series.
