MLB Round up: San Diego Padres defeat St. Louis Cardinals 2-1 in three-game series
National League’s San Diego Padres and St. Louis Cardinals both displayed an incredible performance in an exciting three game series. Padres did a stunning job as they confirmed a 2-1 victory in this series. Padres have had a breathtaking season so far as
they got a pleasing Win-Loss record during the regular season.
Let us take a short overview:
Game 1 – March 31: San Diego Padres 5 – St. Louis Cardinals 3
Padres confirmed a 5-3 win in the first game, as Tim Stauffer was incredible with his pitching. He threw his individual six innings with an ERA of 3.00 and had two strike-outs in the Padres victory. Ryan Theriot said, “You always want to be on your toes
and see where the runner is.”
Cardinals’ batters scored just three runs in the complete game. Chris Carpenter pitched well for the Cardinals but that was not enough to steal a win for his team. He was able to strike-out four batters during his 98 pitches and gave away two walks, two
hits, two runs, no home-run and two earned runs with an ERA of 2.57.
Game 2 – April 2: San Diego Padres 11 – St. Louis Cardinals 3
In the second game, Padres outshined the Cardinal 11-3. Padres’ starter, Clayton Richard threw the ball in the right line as he pitched six innings and permitted just three runs with an ERA of 4.50. Richard struck-out three batters on his 96 pitches.
Cardinals’ manager, Tony La Russa said, “I'm concerned about everything all the time, so you don't get surprised. I'm concerned about everybody.”
Cardinals’ batters struggled but they put in three runs throughout the game. Jake Westbrook had a shaky day with the ball as he threw just over four innings and permitted six hits, eight runs, eight earned runs, five walks and no home-run on his 89 pitches.
He struck-out three batters on his respective pitched innings.
Game 3 – April 3: San Diego Padres 0 – St. Louis Cardinals 2
During final game of the series, Padres lost by 2-0. Cardinals’ short-stop Theriot shined as he hit one RBI and went 1-for-4 with an average of .167. La Russa said, “You've got to get off zero. Over the long season if your record's good enough it's going
to reflect it.”
Padres’ batters failed to score runs in the series finale. Dustin Moseley pitched well for Padres as he threw his seven innings with an ERA of just 1.29 and struck-out two batters. The Cardinals put in a brilliant performance as they fought hard throughout
the game to get a much needed victory over the Padres. Despite this, the Padres clinched the three-game series 2-1.
