National League’s Colorado Rockies and San Diego Padres, both went head to head in an exciting three game series. Padres did an outstanding job as they swept the Rockies 3-0 in this series. Padres have had a superb season so far as they achieved a reasonable
Win-Loss record during the second half of the regular season.
Let us take an overview:
Game 1 - September 19: San Diego Padres 8 – Colorado Rockies 2
Padres managed an 8-2 victory in the first game, as Cory Luebke was notable with his pitching. He threw his respective seven innings with an ERA of 3.24 and had nine strike-outs in the Padres convincing victory. Padres’ manager, Bud Black was thrilled after
this realistic win and said, “I think you always (think about it) because you want it to happen for your guys. You're always aware of it as you move deeper into the game.”
Conversely, Rockies’ batters contributed just two runs throughout the game. Kevin Millwood pitched well for the Rockies but that was not enough to steal a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only one batter during his 63 pitches and gave away one
walk, nine hits, seven runs and six earned runs with an ERA of 4.56.
Game 2 - September 20: San Diego Padres 2 – Colorado Rockies 1
In the second game, Padres outclassed the Rockies 2-1. Padres’ starter, Mat Latos pitched the ball in perfect line as he threw just over eight innings and permitted just one earned run, six hits, one walk and one run with an ERA of 3.60. Latos struck-out
nine batters on his 123 pitches.
Rockies’ centre-fielder Dexter Fowler was the only player who singled to put one run on the score-board. Jhoulys Chacin had an insecure day with the ball as he pitched six innings with an ERA of 3.66 and permitted six hits, two runs, two walks and one earned
run.
Game 3 - September 21: San Diego Padres 4 – Colorado Rockies 0
During final game of the series, Rockies lost by 4-0. Padres’ first baseman Anthony Rizzo shined as he hit single RBI and went 2-for-4 with an average of .138. Black praised Anthony Bass and said, “He's in the mix, whether he's in the mix to start or in
the mix for our 'pen, I think he could be a valuable member of our pitching staff.”
Rockies as a team failed to show their performance in the series finale. They will be looking to improve their efforts in the next match-up before the end of the regular season. However, a group effort kept the Padres on top throughout the three-game series.
