MLB Round up: Tampa Bay Rays sweep New York Yankees 3-0
American League’s Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees, both went head to head in an exciting three game series. Rays did a spectacular job as they crushed the Yankees 3-0 in this series. Rays has had an outstanding season so far as they achieved an exemplary
Win-Loss record during second half of the regular season.
Below is an overview of these exciting games.
Game 1 – September 26: New York Yankees 2 – Tampa Bay Rays 5
Rays managed a 5-2 win in the first game, as James Shields was impressive with his pitching. He had four strike-outs with an ERA of 2.82 in the Rays convincing victory. Shields was excited after this exciting win as he said, “It's been a nice little run.
All the stars have been aligned for us and here we are.”
On the other hand, Yankees' batters got only two runs in the whole game. Hector Noesi pitched well for the Yankees but that was not enough to grab a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only one batter on his 59 pitches.
Game 2 – September 27: New York Yankees 3 – Tampa Bay Rays 5
In the second game, Rays outclassed the Yankees 5-3. Rays’ starter, Jeremy Hellickson threw the ball in good line as he pitched six innings and surrendered just three runs, six hits, five walks, one home-run and three earned runs on his 89 pitches. Hellickson
had just one strike-out with an ERA of 2.95.
Rays’ manager, Joe Maddon said, “Everybody's thirsty for offense, and we'd like to score more. But we're built around pitching and defence.”
Alex Rodriguez, Russell Martin and Brett Gardner were the only players who were able to add up these three runs jointly. Bartolo Colon had a shaky day with the ball as he threw just over five innings with an ERA of 4.00 and gave away seven hits, two runs,
two walks, one homer and two earned runs on his 81 pitches.
Game 3 – September 28: New York Yankees 7 – Tampa Bay Rays 8
During the last game of the series, Yankees lost 8-7. Rays’ third baseman Evan Longoria put in a brilliant performance as he made two runs including four RBIs and went 2-for-5 with an average of .244. David Price pitched his four innings superbly to give
the Rays a valuable victory. Longoria said, “It's a good feeling knowing that one put us into the playoffs and not into a playoff game.”
Derek Jeter, Curtis Granderson, Andruw Jones, Eduardo Nunez and Brandon Laird each singled for the Yankees. A tremendous team effort kept the Rays on top throughout the series.
