MLB Round up: Texas Rangers sweep Seattle Mariners 3-0
American League’s Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers both went head-to-head in a breathtaking three game series. Rangers did an imposing job as they brushed aside the Mariners 3-0 in this series.
Let us take a review of these thrilling games.
Game 1 – April 4: Seattle Mariners 4 – Texas Rangers 6
Rangers managed a 6-4 win in the first game, as Derek Holland was notable with his pitching. He struck-out five batters with an ERA of 4.50 in the Rangers convincing victory. Rangers’ manager, Ron Washington was excited after this impressive win as he said, “We've got a solid offense. Anybody in the lineup can get you. Tonight Elvis got us going. ... Anytime you've got that lineup, that's what it's all about.”
Conversely, Mariners’ batters posted just four runs in the whole game. Erik Bedard pitched well for the Mariners but that was not enough to grab a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only three batters on his 95 pitches and permitted five runs including three earned runs.
Game 2 – April 5: Seattle Mariners 2 – Texas Rangers 3
In the second game, Rangers outclassed the Mariners 3-2. Rangers’ starter, Alexi Ogando threw the ball in good line as he pitched six innings and surrendered just two hits, two walks and no earned run on his 90 pitches. Ogando had just four strike-outs with an ERA of 0.00.
Ogando said, “I had to get the last out. ... I asked them to let me finish the inning. They always ask me that question about how I look so calm on the mound.”
Mariners’ catcher Miguel Olivo and Adam Kennedy were the only two players who were able to score two runs for their team. Michael Pineda had a shaky day with the ball as he threw six innings with an ERA of 4.50 and gave away five hits, three runs, one walk, no homer and three earned runs on his 85 pitches.
Game 3 – April 6: Seattle Mariners 3 – Texas Rangers 7
During the final game of the series, Mariners lost 7-3. Rangers’ right-fielder, Nelson Cruz, shined as he made one run including two RBIs and went 1-for-4 with an average of .350. C.J. Wilson pitched his seven innings beautifully to give the Rangers a valuable victory. He surrendered just three runs, two walks, six hits and two earned runs.
Milton Bradley, Jack Cust and Luis Hernandez each singled to complete the three runs for the Mariners. But a combined effort kept the Rangers on top throughout the thrilling series. The Rangers put in a decent performance as they fought hard throughout the series and managed to restrict the Mariners’ offence.
