The Yankees’ starter Bartolo Colon shined in the game with the ball and took out six batters allowing just four no-score hits over his full game pitching. With this win Colon improved his record to 3-3 with 3.26 ERA this season and the Yankees won their
29th game of the season.
Game 2: Yankees’ bat piles 10 runs to clobber A’s
The Yankees started the second game in the same manner as they did the first and got an early lead to put the opposition under pressure. This time they gave a serious blow to the A’s starter Brett Anderson, scoring 10 runs over his five innings spell to
win the game 10-3.
The Yankees’ Curtis Granderson scored four RBIs including a lead-off homer in the first inning and an RBI double in the fourth inning. Alex Rodriguez made three RBIs, one in the second inning and others in the sixth inning to improve his RBI record to 31
this season. Robinson Cano hammered a two-run homer in the fifth and also scored the last RBI of the game in the sixth inning to help the Yankees win their 30th game of the season.
The A’s managed to score just three runs with an RBI single in the third and a two-run homer by the David DeJesus in the fifth inning.
The A’s starter Brett Anderson consumed all ten runs on eleven hits, also allowed three walks over and struck-out two batters to bear his fifth loss of the season in his twelfth start. Freddy Garcia, on the other hand, gave just three runs on nine hits,
walked two and struck-out five batters over his seven innings to clinch his fourth win of the season.
Game 3: Yankees over powers A’s 4-2 in series finale
The Yankees after being under 1-2 deficit in the first inning, struck back and took the series finale 4-2 to name their series sweep, at the Coliseum on June 1.
After Alex Rodriguez scored a lead-off RBI single off the A’s starter Gio Gonzalez, the Athletics’ Josh Willingham launched a 411-feet long two-run homer for a lead generating two runs.
Gonzalez then strived hard to defend this lead but in the fourth inning the Yankees top slugger Nick Swisher launched a 373-feet long three-run homer to take his team from one run back to two runs with 4-2 on board.
The Yankees’ starter Allan Jones Burnett after two runs in the first inning struck back and succeeded in completing his seven innings spell without allowing further runs, taking out five batters to earn his sixth win of the season.
