MLB Roundup: San Francisco Giants win series against Cleveland Indians 3-0
After losing their season-high five consecutive games, the San Francisco Giants made a comeback and took two consecutive wins over the Minnesota Twins and now they were looking to wash away the splashes of defeats over their shoulders. The wounded Giants
succeeded in their task as they shut-out the Cleveland Indians 3-0 and took their sixth series sweep in this season.
Game 1: San Francisco Giants carry winning momentum to crush Indians 4-3
Entering against one of the American League’s top teams, the Cleveland Indians was not a problem for the defending World Series Champions Giants at AT&T Park on Friday, June 24.
Indians gained two runs in the first inning and one in the top of the fourth inning to take 3-0 strong lead but then the Giants’ bat awoke. First, they reduced the lead by one run in the bottom of the fourth inning with the help of an RBI single by Andres
Torres then they piled three striking runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to snatch a lead from the opposition.
Emmanuel Burris, Pablo Sandoval and Aubrey Huff were the batters who contributed in sixth to take their team into their third consecutive win after getting down for season high five games.
Jonathan Sanchez made all three runs over four innings while relievers’ Santiago Casilla, Jeff Affeldt, Sergio Romo and closer Brian Wilson each remained scoreless. The Indians’ starter Carlos Carrasco pitched eight innings and allowed all four runs.
Game 2: Giants strike back to shut-out Indians 1-0
The Giants’ ace Matt Cain showed his class with the ball and allowed just four no-score hits, walked one struck-out six batters over seven innings to shut-out the rivals 1-0 in second game on Saturday, June 25.
His reliever gave him a full support in later innings as Javier Lopez remained scoreless to hold his 13th game while closer Brian Wilson earned his 23rd game of the season, tossing unplayable pitches.
The Indians’ starter Justin Masterson threw swinging unplayable fastballs but he lost his momentum in the seventh inning and gave away the only run of the game to the Giants Miguel Tejada. It caused the Indians their 35th loss in the season, despite
their relief pitcher Tony Sipp and closer Vinnie Pestano striving hard to save the game.
Game 3: Madison Bumgarner helps Giants to win rubber game 3-1
The Giants’ starter Madison Bumgarner, who was coming after receiving a career-worst loss in his last game against the Minnesota Twins on June 21, made a perfect retaliation and completely outclassed opposing batting line-up with his shattering pitching.
Bumgarner allowed only one run and took a career-high 11 strike-outs over seven innings to snatch his fourth win while Jeff Affeldt closed the game taking five strike-outs without allowing even a single hit.
Casey Stewart scored an RBI double in the second and Aubrey Huff added an RBI single in the third for a three-run lead. All of these runs were consumed by the Indians’ ace Carmona over his six innings spell that cost him his tenth loss of the season.
