Rangers opened the game with a positive manner and scored an early two runs with an RBI single each by Josh Hamilton and Adrian Beltre in the first inning. Then, Mike Napoli and Eric Chavez launched a homer each before Hamilton hit a sacrifice for another
RBI single in the third inning.
In the fourth inning, Mitch Moreland hammered a one-run homer, however in the bottom half, Rays’ Matt Joyce scored an RBI single. In the sixth inning Mike Napoli launched another homer for an RBI single but in the bottom half of the inning, Ben Zobrist and
Justin Ruggiano launched a homer each to reduce the lead 5-9.
In the eighth inning, Mike Napoli again scored an RBI while Eric Chavez also added an RBI single to take it to 11-5, which could not be surpassed until the last inning and the Rangers won their 29th win of the game.
Game 2: Rays strike back in series with 5-4 win over Rangers
The Rays managed to square the series 1-all with the help of a striking homer by Evan Longoria in the bottom of the eighth inning that took the Rays to a 5-4 victory over the Texas Rangers on May 31.
In an electrifying competition, both teams scored in the same innings, as Rangers’ Adrian Beltre led off the game with an RBI single in the top of the third while Sean Rodriguez tied with an RBI for the Rays in the bottom of the inning.
Ian Kinsler and Michael Young scored an RBI single to take the Rangers to 3-1 but Matt Joyce launched a 376-feet long two-run homer to again tie the game 3-all.
The score remained until the eighth inning when Rays’ reliever James Philips Howell allowed an RBI consuming walk to Kinsler that put the club under one run deficit in the top of the inning. However, Longoria launched a two-run homer off the Rangers’ closer
Mark Lowe to take his team back into leading position and the series tied at 1-all.
Game 3: Colby Lewis shutouts Rays as Rangers clinch series 2-1
The Rangers bounced back in the rubber-game of the series and beat the Tampa Bay Rays 3-0 on June 1, to take the second-straight series 2-1.
The Rangers’ starter Colby Lewis threw impressive fast curveballs over his eight innings spell in which he took eight batters besides allowing only four hits and two walks. He made his fifth win of the season to improve his record to 5-5 with a 3.48 ERA
to take his club into their 30th triumph of the season.
The Rangers made one run in the fifth with an RBI single and two runs in the eighth when short-stop Elvis Andrus splashed a hit off the Rays’ starter David Price to right-field for an RBI double. Price allowed just one run over seven innings and got eight
strike-outs.
