MLB: Scott Boras channels interest in Magglio Ordonez
Major League Baseball is steaming hot with prospects shifting to the free agents’ list. Many ball players are heading out of their club to the free zone and it’s like any other post season event. Ball players are either being denied options or they’re heading
over to the other side in search of long multiyear deals. The United States economy may still be out of recession but the teams in both National and American Leagues are avoiding making long term investments on experienced and pricy agents in the market.
The most viable options in the market are pitchers, hitters and hitters who have been driving in consistent performances for their franchises. Cliff Lee is the leading agent to be headlining every team’s wish list. Jayson Werth, Derek Jeter and Carl Crawford
are other figures to top the target board.
A recent inductee in the free zone comes in the form of Magglio Ordonez and he makes his way to the batch following a decline by the Detroit Tigers to exercise his $15 million option for 2011.One of the basic concerns and reasons for the decision had to
deal with the veteran’s appearance on the plate.
However one of the problems in the decision had to deal with Ordonez’s injury. The big man fractured his right ankle on a slide in and that ultimately ended his season in August. So a concern on his appearance in the games may have been stretched but some
analysts do believe the strong hitter may be getting prone to more injury due to his age.
However, the player has nothing to worry about as Magglio’s agent; Scott Boras came out with an exciting revelation. He said, “We’ve gotten a lot of early calls. I think with this marketplace, the right handed hitters of that ilk, like Magglio; there’s going
to be a very strong demand for them.”
He further talked about the player’s injury by saying, “I think a lot is being made of a standard fracture, what a lot of orthopaedic surgeons say is a minor fracture. There’s no issue with flexibility, weight bearing, anything like that. It was really just
a very simple fracture. It simply took some time to heal. This was not a complicated event. There really will not be any time frame where teams will wait and see if he has any trouble performing.”
