MLB Season Review: Arizona Diamondbacks beat Philadelphia Phillies 2-1 in three-game series
National League’s Arizona Diamondbacks and Philadelphia Phillies both were dynamic after finishing their 2011 season in style. Diamondbacks were amazing and did a significant job as they completed a 2-1 victory in this series after defeating the Phillies
comfortably.
Let us take an overview and see how the Diamondbacks dominated the Phillies.
Game 1 – April 25: Philadelphia Phillies 0 – Arizona Diamondbacks 4
Diamondbacks directed a 4-0 win in the first game, as Ian Kennedy was impressive with his pitching. He had 10 strike-outs with an ERA of 4.02 in the Diamondbacks convincing victory. Speaking to reporters, Kennedy said, “It's been surreal. Not expecting her
to come when my Allie went into labour, then flying in from New York, which is about the farthest place I could be.”
Phillies’ batters were unable to score any run in the first game. Cliff Lee threw beautifully for the Phillies but that was not enough to grab a win for his team. He was able to strike-out 12 batters on his 102 pitches and permitted five hits with four earned
runs.
Game 2 – April 26: Philadelphia Phillies 5 – Arizona Diamondbacks 7
During the second game, Diamondbacks outshined the Phillies 7-5. Diamondbacks’ starter, Daniel Hudson threw the ball in good line as he pitched six innings and surrendered just three runs and three earned runs with 10 hits on his 110 pitches. Hudson had
six strike-outs with an ERA of 5.64.
Hudson discussed his contribution and said, “It’s definitely huge the way I've been struggling to get out of a jam like that.'”
Phillies struggled with the bat and scored just five runs until the end of the game. Roy Oswalt had a shaky day with the ball as he threw three innings with an ERA of 3.33 and gave away six hits, five runs, one walk, no homer and five earned runs on his
57 pitches.
Game 3 – April 27: Philadelphia Phillies 8 – Arizona Diamondbacks 4
During the final game of the series, Diamondbacks lost 8-4. Phillies’ short-stop Jimmy Rollins shined as he completed two runs including three RBIs and went 2-for-5 with an average of .271. Phillies’ starter Cole Hamels pitched seven innings and allowed
four hits, three runs, three earned runs including eight strike-outs.
Diamondbacks were able to post only four runs in the series finale and failed to sweep the Phillies. Joe Saunders pitched just over five innings and gave away six runs, 10 hits, six earned runs and one walk on his 107 pitches. However, a team effort kept
the Diamondbacks on peak against the inconsistent Phillies throughout the series. The Diamondbacks did a good job to dominate the series against the Phillies.
