MLB Season Review: Arizona Diamondbacks defeat Cincinnati Reds 2-1 in three-game series
National League’s Arizona Diamondbacks and Cincinnati Reds battled it out in a thrilling three game series. Diamondbacks did a tremendous job as they sealed a 2-1 victory in this series after defeating the Reds convincingly. Arizona has had a remarkable
season so far as they got an acceptable Win-Loss record during spring training season.
Let us take a brief summary of these inspiring games:
Game 1 – April 8: Cincinnati Reds 2 – Arizona Diamondbacks 13

Diamondbacks directed a 13-2 win in the first game, as Ian Kennedy was incredible with his pitching. He threw his respective eight innings with an ERA of 2.57 and struck-out nine batters in the Diamondbacks victory. Speaking to reporters, Kennedy said, “I
was throwing a lot of strikes with my off-speed pitches. When you have that, you keep hitters off balance, you have success.”
On the other side, Reds’ batters were able to add only two runs right through the complete game. Travis Wood pitched well for the Reds but that was not enough to steal a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only four batters during his 77 pitches
and gave away two walks, seven hits, six runs, no home-run and six earned runs with an ERA of 5.25.
Game 2 – April 9: Cincinnati Reds 6 – Arizona Diamondbacks 1
In the second game, Reds outclassed Arizona 6-1. Reds’ starter, Bronson Arroyo pitched the ball in accurate line as he threw six innings and allowed eight hits with an ERA of 2.08. Arroyo struck-out six batters during his 94 pitches.
Diamondbacks were shaky with the bat and added just one run until the end of the game. Daniel Hudson had an insecure day with the ball as he pitched seven innings with an ERA of 3.46 and surrendered three hits with three walks on his 99 pitches. Hudson struck-out
eight batters and gave away just two earned runs.
Game 3 – April 10: Cincinnati Reds 8 – Arizona Diamondbacks 10
During the last game of the series, Reds lost 10-8. Diamondbacks’ centre-fielder Chris Young shined as he struck four RBIs and went 1-for-4 with an average of .257. Reds’ manager Dusty Baker said, “It was a matter of location. One ball was supposed to be
in, the other away and they were down the heart of the plate and they didn't miss them.”
Reds’ batters were able to yield only eight runs in the series finale. Mike Leake pitched just over four innings and gave away six runs, nine hits, six earned runs and two walks on his 87 pitches. However, a brilliant team effort gave Arizona the series
win against the struggling Reds.
