MLB Season Review: Arizona Diamondbacks edge out Colorado Rockies 2-1 in three-game series
National League’s Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks battled it out in a thrilling three-game series. Diamondbacks were extraordinary and did a noteworthy job as they completed a 2-1 victory in the series after beating the Rockies comfortably.
Let us take a rundown of these three games and see how the Diamondbacks dominated the Rockies.
Game 1 – May 3: Colorado Rockies 3 – Arizona Diamondbacks 4
Diamondbacks managed a 4-3 win in the series starter, as Joe Saunders was impressive with his pitching. He had two strike-outs with an ERA of 5.67 in the Diamondbacks convincing victory. Arizona’s manager, Kirk Gibson said, “For J-Up to go [opposite field]
like that, it's a good approach, and it was a game-winner. That's one of the times where it's paid off when we've done it.”
Rockies’ batters were able to put in only three runs in the opening game. Jorge De La Rosa threw beautifully for the Rockies but that was not adequate to secure a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only six batters on his 100 pitches and permitted
seven hits with three earned runs.
Game 2 – May 4: Colorado Rockies 6 – Arizona Diamondbacks 4
During the second game, Rockies defeated the Diamondbacks 6-4. Rockies’ starter, Jhoulys Chacin threw the ball in good line as he pitched seven innings and surrendered four walks and three hits on his 109 pitches. Chacin had six strike-outs with an ERA of
2.85.
Rockies’ manager, Jim Tracy said, “Tonight I really I feel like we got back to doing what it was that we were doing in the early part of the season to get us off to the start that we got off to.”
Diamondbacks had difficulties with the bat and were able to take only four runs until the end of the game. Barry Enright had a shaky day with the ball as he threw five innings with an ERA of 6.49 and gave away six hits and six runs with only one strike-out
on his 83 pitches.
Game 3 – May 5: Colorado Rockies 2 – Arizona Diamondbacks 3
During the final game of the series, Rockies lost 3-2. Diamondbacks’ centre-fielder Chris Young shined as he struck one RBI and went 3-for-6 with an average of .236. Diamondbacks’ starter, Ian Kennedy pitched six innings and allowed only two runs and six
hits including five strike-outs.
Rockies were able to score only two runs in the series finale and failed to take over the Diamondbacks. Rockies’ starter, Jason Hammel pitched seven innings and did not give away any runs, four hits and three walks including four strike-outs on his 114 pitches.
However, a decent group effort kept the Diamondbacks on top against the Rockies throughout the series.
