MLB Season Review: Atlanta Braves beat San Diego Padres 2-1 in three-game series
National League’s Atlanta Braves and San Diego Padres both were dynamic after finishing their 2011 season in style. Braves were amazing and did a significant job as they completed a 2-1 victory in this series after hammering the Padres.
Let us take an overview and see how the Braves dominated the Padres.
Game 1 – April 25: Atlanta Braves 3 – San Diego Padres 5
Padres started the series pretty well and directed a 5-3 win in the first game, as Dustin Moseley was impressive with his pitching. He had two strike-outs with an ERA of 1.99 in the Padres convincing victory. Padres’ manager, Bud Black said, “Hopefully it
creates momentum but we have to come out tomorrow again and play as consistent a game as we did today.”
Braves’ batters were able to score only three runs in the first game. Derek Lowe threw beautifully for the Braves but that was not enough to thrash a win for his team. He was able to strike-out eight batters on his 107 pitches and permitted five hits with
two earned runs.
Game 2 – April 26: Atlanta Braves 8 – San Diego Padres 2
During second game, Braves outshined the Padres 8-2. Braves’ starter, Jair Jurrjens threw the ball in good line as he pitched nine innings and surrendered just two runs and two earned runs with nine hits on his 114 pitches. Jurrjens had four strike-outs
with an ERA of 1.23.
David Ross commented on Jurrjens and said, "His slider didn't show up until the seventh. He gave up a lot of hits but he pitched his tail off when guys got on base."
Padres struggled with the bat and scored just two runs until the end of the game. Aaron Harang had an average performance with the ball as he threw six innings with an ERA of 3.90 and gave away seven hits, eight runs, three walks, three homers and eight
earned runs on his 103 pitches.
Game 3 – April 27: Atlanta Braves 7 – San Diego Padres 0
During the final game of the series, Padres lost 7-0. Braves’ third baseman Chipper Jones shined as he completed one run including three RBIs and went 1-for-4 with an average of .289. Braves’ starter Tommy Hanson pitched seven innings and allowed four hits,
no earned run and one walk including 10 strike-outs.
Padres were unable to post any run in the series decider and failed to overcome the Braves. Mat Latos pitched five innings and gave away six runs, seven hits, one earned run and one walk on his 94 pitches. However, a group effort kept the Braves on top against
the inconsistent Padres throughout the series.
