MLB Season Review: Atlanta Braves defeat New York Mets 2-1 in three-game series
National League’s Atlanta Braves and New York Mets both fought well in a thrilling three game series. Braves did a noticeable job as they sealed a 2-1 victory in this series after defeating the Mets convincingly. Braves have had a remarkable season so far
as they got an acceptable Win-Loss record during the season.
Let us take a brief summary of these inspiring games:
Game 1 – April 16: New York Mets 2 – Atlanta Braves 4
Braves directed a 4-2 win in the first game, as Derek Lowe was incredible with his pitching. He threw his respective six innings with an ERA of 1.82 and struck-out four batters in the Braves victory. Lowe said, “It was good, it was needed. It was kind of
a struggle, a lot of line drives at people. I was not as sharp as I have been.”
On the other side, Mets’ batters were able to add only two runs right through the complete game. D.J. Carrasco pitched well for the Mets but that was not enough to steal a win for his team. He was able to strike-out two batters during his 86 pitches and
gave away three walks, four hits, three runs, three home-runs and three earned runs with an ERA of 5.23.
Game 2 – April 16: New York Mets 0 – Atlanta Braves 4
In the second game, Braves outclassed the Mets 4-0. Braves’ starter, Jair Jurrjens pitched the ball in accurate line as he threw seven innings and allowed only two hits with an ERA of 0.00. Jurrjens struck-out four batters during his 100 pitches.
Speaking to reporters, Jurrjens said, “It's a good feeling being able to help your team. It's exciting being back out there. It's fun, and I hope it continues the rest of the season.”
Mets were shaky with the bat and added no run until the end of the game. Mike Pelfrey had an insecure day with the ball as he pitched five innings with an ERA of 9.72 and surrendered 11 hits with one walk on his 86 pitches. Pelfrey struck-out three batters
and gave away just four earned runs.
Game 3 – April 17: New York Mets 3 – Atlanta Braves 2
During the last game of the series, Braves lost 3-2. Mets’ catcher, Josh Thole shined as he struck two RBIs and went 2-for-4 with an average of .277. Mets’ manager, Terry Collins said, “It's our biggest win so far, I can tell you that.”
Braves’ batters were able to yield only two runs in the series finale. Tommy Hanson pitched five innings and gave away three runs, five hits, three earned runs and no home-run on his 97 pitches. However, a decent team effort gave the Braves the series win
against the struggling Mets.
