MLB Season Review: Baltimore Orioles beat Boston Red Sox 2-1 in three-game series
American League’s Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles battled it out in an exciting three game series. Orioles were amazing and did a significant job as they completed a 2-1 victory in this series after defeating the Red Sox comfortably.
Let us take an overview and see how the Orioles dominated the Red Sox.
Game 1 – April 26: Boston Red Sox 1 – Baltimore Orioles 4
Orioles directed a 4-1 win in the first game, as Zach Britton was impressive with his pitching. He had two strike-outs with an ERA of 2.84 in the Orioles convincing victory. Orioles’ manager, Buck Showalter said, “So far he's been good. He's handled it pretty
well for a guy with limited experience. We like the things he's doing right now.”
Red Sox batters were able to score only one run in the first game. Clay Buchholz threw beautifully for the Red Sox but that was not enough to thrash a win for his team. He was able to strike-out just five batters on his 104 pitches and permitted 12 hits
with four earned runs.
Game 2 – April 27: Boston Red Sox 4 – Baltimore Orioles 5
During the second game, Orioles outshined the Red Sox 5-4. Orioles’ starter, Jeremy Guthrie threw the ball in good line as he pitched six innings and surrendered just one walk and seven hits on his 111 pitches. Guthrie had six strike-outs with an ERA of
2.53.
Orioles’ left-fielder Luke Scott said, “It was a sense of, ‘Aw, dang it,’ It took about a second to reflect on it, but guys were upbeat, guys were positive, guys were optimistic.”
Red Sox struggled with the bat and scored just four runs until the end of the game. Josh Beckett had an average day with the ball as he threw six innings with an ERA of 2.65 and gave away seven hits, four runs, no walk, two homers and four earned runs on
his 92 pitches.
Game 3 – April 28: Boston Red Sox 6 – Baltimore Orioles 2
During the final game of the series, Orioles lost 6-2. Red Sox centre-fielder Jacoby Ellsbury shined as he completed two runs including two RBIs and went 3-for-5 with an average of .264. Red Sox starter Jon Lester pitched eight innings and allowed four hits,
two runs, two earned runs including five strike-outs.
Orioles were able to post only two runs in the series finale and failed to sweep the Red Sox. Brad Bergesen pitched six innings and gave away two runs, six hits, two earned runs and two walks on his 92 pitches. However, a tremendous team effort kept the
Orioles on top against the inconsistent Red Sox throughout the series.
