MLB Season Review: Boston Red Sox and Oakland Athletics level two-game series 1-all
American League’s Boston Red Sox and Oakland Athletics went head-to-head in a thrilling two game series. The Red Sox and Athletics both did an impressive job as they tied the two-game series 1-all. Athletics have had an amazing season as they got an exemplary
Win-Loss record during spring training season this year.
Let us take a brief outline of these inspirational games:
Game 1 – April 19: Boston Red Sox 0 – Oakland Athletics 5
Athletics managed a 5-0 win in the first game, as Brett Anderson was impressive with his pitching. He had eight strike-outs with an ERA of 1.63 in the Athletics convincing victory. Anderson was excited after this impressive win as he said, “It's fun when
we're going good like that. We want to feed off each other and keep putting up zeros.”
Hideki Matsui had a memorable day with the bat as he went 1-or-4 with an average of .230 and hit two RBIs including no run. Coco Crisp, Daric Barton, Josh Willingham, Ryan Sweeney and Cliff Pennington each displayed their contribution and added five runs
collectively to give the Athletics a competitive lead over the Red Sox.
Conversely, Red Sox batters did not contribute any runs to keep themselves alive. The batters were unsteady and failed to hit proper shots. John Lackey pitched well for his team but that was not enough to steal a win for the Red Sox. He struck-out three
batters on his 93 pitches. Lackey permitted one run, four hits, one walk, no home-run and one earned run with an ERA of 9.82.
Game 2 – April 20: Boston Red Sox 5 – Oakland Athletics 3
In the second or final game of the series, Red Sox outclassed the Athletics 5-3. Red Sox starter, Clay Buchholz threw the ball in good line as he pitched just over five innings and surrendered only one run, six hits, one home-run and one earned run on his
102 pitches. Buchholz had just two strike-outs with an ERA of 5.31.
Red Sox manager, Terry Francona said, “It's a little late, but it feels good. If we bog ourselves down with what we did two weeks ago, that's what we're going to do: bog ourselves down. We need to try to stay in the moment and win.”
Athletics’ Crisp, Matsui and Landon Powell were the only three players who scored three runs for their team. Gio Gonzalez had a shaky day with the ball as he threw six innings with an ERA of 1.80 and gave away eight hits, four runs, one walk, two homers
and four earned runs on his 104 pitches. Gonzalez struck-out nine batters on his respective innings pitched.
However, a group effort kept the Athletics and Red Sox both on top throughout the two-game series.
