MLB Season Review: Boston Red Sox defeat New York Yankees 2-1 in three-game series
American League’s New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox went head-to-head in a thrilling three game series. Red Sox did a decent job as they sealed a 2-1 victory in this series after defeating the Yankees convincingly. Red Sox has had a remarkable season so
far as they got an acceptable Win-Loss record during the beginning of the regular season.
Let us take a brief summary of these exciting games:
Game 1 – April 8: New York Yankees 6 – Boston Red Sox 9
Red Sox directed a 9-6 win in the first game, as John Lackey was incredible with his pitching. He threw his respective five innings with an ERA of 15.58 and struck-out two batters in the Red Sox victory. Dustin Pedroia said, “It seems like guys were calm,
weren't jumping at the ball. This is our park.”
On the other side, Yankees’ batters were able to add six runs right through the complete game. Phil Hughes pitched well for the Yankees but that was not enough to steal a win for his team. He was unable to strike-out any batter during his 47 pitches and
gave away two walks, seven hits, six runs, one home-run and six earned runs with an ERA of 16.50.
Game 2 – April 9: New York Yankees 9 – Boston Red Sox 4
In the second game, Yankees outclassed the Red Sox 9-4. Yankees’ starter, Ivan Nova pitched the ball in accurate line but was expensive as he threw just over four innings and allowed seven hits with an ERA of 6.10. Nova struck-out three batters on his 87
pitches.
Yankees’ manager, Joe Girardi said, “I saw him as a very productive player. I wasn't saying he was going to hit 30 homers and 120 RBIs, but I thought he'd be a productive player in our lineup.”
Red Sox were shaky with the bat and added just four runs until the end of the game. Clay Buchholz struggled with the ball as he pitched just over three innings with an ERA of 7.20 and surrendered eight hits with three walks on his 92 pitches. Buchholz struck-out
two batters.
Game 3 – April 10: New York Yankees 0 – Boston Red Sox 4
During last game of the series, Yankees lost 4-0. Red Sox second baseman Pedroia shined as he had one run and went 3-for-4 with an average of .400.
Yankees’ batters failed to add any run in the series decider. CC Sabathia pitched just over five innings and gave away one run, nine hits, one earned run and four walks on his 118 pitches. However, a team effort gave the Red Sox a series win against the
struggling Yankees.
