MLB Season Review: Boston Red Sox sweep Los Angeles Angels 4-0
American League’s Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Angels battled it out in a thrilling four game series. Red Sox did an impressive job as they sealed a 4-0 victory in this series after defeating the Angels comfortably. Red Sox have had a remarkable season
so far as they got an acceptable Win-Loss record during the season.
Let us take a brief outline of these exciting games:
Game 1 – April 21: Boston Red Sox 4 – Los Angeles Angels 2
Red Sox directed a 4-2 win in the first game, as Josh Beckett was incredible with his pitching. He threw his respective eight innings with an ERA of 1.93 and struck-out five batters in the Red Sox victory. Adrian Gonzalez said, “That's the situation you
want to be in, especially in extra innings. You know if you come through, you've got your closer coming in.”
On the other side, Angels’ batters were able to add only two runs right through the complete game. Tyler Chatwood pitched well for the Angels but that was not enough to earn a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only three batters during his 103
pitches and gave away five walks, six hits, two runs, no home-run and two earned runs with an ERA of 3.50.
Game 2 – April 22: Boston Red Sox 4 – Los Angeles Angels 3
In the second game, Red Sox outclassed the Angels 4-3. Red Sox starter, Jon Lester pitched the ball perfectly as he threw six innings and allowed just four hits with an ERA of 2.59. Lester struck-out eight batters on his 111 pitches.
Angels struggled with the bat again and added three runs until the end of the game. Dan Haren had an insecure day with the ball as he pitched six innings with an ERA of 1.46 and surrendered five hits with three walks on his 109 pitches. Haren struck-out
six batters and allowed just two earned runs.
Game 3 – April 23: Boston Red Sox 5 – Los Angeles Angels 0
During the third game of the series, Angels lost 5-0. Red Sox third baseman Kevin Youkilis shined as he struck two RBIs and went 1-for-4 with an average of .217.
Mark Trumbo said, “We battled as much as we could, but [Matsuzaka] was just better.”
Angels’ batters yielded no run in this crucial game. Ervin Santana pitched seven innings and gave away five runs, nine hits, five earned runs and one walk on his 104 pitches.
Game 4 – April 24: Boston Red Sox 7 – Los Angeles Angels 0
Red Sox won the series finale 7-0 as each player put in a decent performance. John Lackey threw his eight innings with an ERA of 6.35 and struck-out six batters. However, a team effort gave the Red Sox an incredible series win against the struggling Angels.
