MLB Season Review: Chicago Cubs defeat Arizona Diamondbacks 2-1 in three-game series
National League’s Chicago Cubs and Arizona Diamondbacks both went head-to-head in a three game series. Cubs did a remarkable job as they defeated Arizona by 2-1 win in this series. Cubs have had an outstanding season so far as they maintained a realistic
Win-Loss record during the season.
Let us take a short review.
Game 1 - April 4: Arizona Diamondbacks 1 – Chicago Cubs 4
Cubs managed a 4-1 win in the first game, as Randy Wells was notable with his pitching. Wells pitched his individual six innings with an ERA of 1.50 and struck-out six batters in the Cubs victory. Wells was excited after this sensible win and said, “A little
sloppy. The first hitter of the game you don't want to walk him. ... It's not the end of the world. A solo homer. You almost got to start the game over.”
Diamondbacks’ batters scored only one run to lift the potential of their team. Joe Saunders threw well for the Diamondbacks but that was not enough to steal a win for his team. He was able to strike-out three batters during his 88 pitches and gave away three
walks, five hits, two runs and two earned runs with an ERA of 3.00.
Game 2 - April 5: Arizona Diamondbacks 5 – Chicago Cubs 6
During second game, Cubs outclassed the Diamondbacks 6-5. Cubs’ starter Andrew Cashner pitched the ball in right line as he threw just over five innings and permitted just two hits, one walk, one home-run and one earned run with an ERA of 1.69. Cashner struck-out
two batters on his 72 pitches.
Cubs’ manager, Mike Quade said, “You can't leave here without talking about Russ. We were in a bit of a mess pitchingwise and he picked us up. I absolutely needed him.”
Diamondbacks’ Chris young, Juan Miranda and Ryan Roberts each had a superb contribution to post five collective runs on the score-board. Barry Enright had an insecure day with the ball as he tossed his six innings with an ERA of 6.00 and surrendered seven
hits with three strike-outs on 100 pitches.
Game 3 - April 6: Arizona Diamondbacks 6 – Chicago Cubs 4
In the last game of the series, Cubs lost by 6-4. Diamondbacks’ short-stop Willie Bloomquist shined as he struck one RBI and went 2-for-5 with an average of .348.
Cubs added four runs in the series finale. Starlin Castro, Marlon Byrd, Aramis Ramirez and Alfonso Soriano each singled to keep alive the Cubs. However, a combined effort gave the Cubs a series win against the struggling Diamondbacks. The series was exciting
as both teams fought hard to try and dominate early, however it was the Chicago Cubs that came out on top.
