MLB Season Review: Cincinnati Reds beat Houston Astros 2-1 in three-game series
National League’s Houston Astros and Cincinnati Reds went head-to-head in a thrilling three game series. Reds did an eye-catching job as they sealed a 2-1 victory in this series after defeating the Astros convincingly. Reds have had a remarkable season so
far as they got an acceptable Win-Loss record during the season.
Let us take a brief summary of these inspiring games:
Game 1 – April 5: Houston Astros 2 – Cincinnati Reds 8
Reds directed an 8-2 win in the first game, as Mike Leake was incredible with his pitching. He threw his respective six innings with an ERA of 3.00 and struck-out four batters in the Reds victory. Reds’ manager, Dusty Baker said, “Remember I said that whatever
we sold last year was going to be an easier sell this year because of the results.”
On the other side, Astros’ batters were able to add only two runs right through the entire game. J.A. Happ pitched well for the Astros but that was not enough to steal a win for his team. He was able to strike-out two batters during his 91 pitches and gave
away five walks, seven hits, seven runs, no home-run and seven earned runs with an ERA of 15.75.
Chris Heisey said, “You get off to a good start and keep winning. I'll say we're probably going to lose a game before long, but if we go 162-0, we'll be making some serious headlines.”
Game 2 – April 6: Houston Astros 4 – Cincinnati Reds 12
In the second game, Reds outclassed the Astros 12-4. Reds’ starter, Edinson Volquez pitched the ball in accurate line as he threw five innings and allowed five hits with an ERA of 7.36. Volquez struck-out eight batters on his 99 pitches.
Astros remained shaky with the bat and added just four runs until the end of the game. Michael Bourn, Angel Sanchez, Carlos Lee and Brett Wallace each singled to keep the Astros alive. Nelson Figueroa had an insecure day with the ball as he pitched just
over five innings with an ERA of 10.13 and surrendered 11 hits, 10 runs, six earned runs, one walk and no home-run on his 86 pitches.
Game 3 – April 7: Houston Astros 3 – Cincinnati Reds 2
During the last game of the series, Reds lost 3-2. Astros’ first baseman Wallace shined as he struck one RBI and went 1-for-3 with an average of .143.
Reds’ batters scored just two runs in the series finale. Sam LeCure pitched five innings and gave away two runs, three hits, two earned runs and two walks on his 84 pitches. However, a brilliant team effort gave the Reds the series win against the struggling
Astros.
