MLB Season Review: Cincinnati Reds defeat San Diego Padres 2-1 in three-game series
National League’s Arizona Diamondbacks and Cincinnati Reds both battled it out in an exciting three game series. Reds did a brilliant job as they sealed a 2-1 victory in this series after defeating the Padres convincingly. Reds have had a remarkable season
so far as they got an acceptable Win-Loss record during the season.
Let us take a brief summary of these inspiring games:
Game 1 – April 11: Cincinnati Reds 3 – San Diego Padres 2
Reds directed a 3-2 win in the first game, as Edinson Volquez was incredible with his pitching. He threw his respective six innings with an ERA of 5.82 and struck-out five batters in the Reds victory. Chris Heisey said, “Hey, if we can get him through the
first inning, the last three times out now he's had a tough first inning but he's rebounded real well and kept them right there.”
On the other side, Padres’ batters were able to add only two runs right through the complete game. Mat Latos pitched well for the Padres but that was not enough to steal a win for his team. He was able to strike-out seven batters during his 94 pitches and
gave away two walks, four hits, three runs, two home-runs and three earned runs with an ERA of 4.50.
Game 2 – April 12: Cincinnati Reds 8 – San Diego Padres 2
In the second game, Reds outclassed the Padres 8-2. Reds’ starter, Sam LeCure pitched the ball in accurate line as he threw six innings and allowed only one hit with an ERA of 2.25. LeCure struck-out eight batters during his 87 pitches.
Padres’ manager, Bud Black said, “We didn't get the hit when we needed to and they did.”
Padres were shaky with the bat and added just two runs until the end of the game. Clayton Richard had an insecure day with the ball as he pitched just over seven innings with an ERA of 2.45 and surrendered five hits with two walks on his 107 pitches. Richard
struck-out four batters and gave away just one earned run.
Game 3 – April 13: Cincinnati Reds 2 – San Diego Padres 3
During last game of the series, Reds lost by 3-2. Padres’ pinch hitter Nick Hundley shined as he struck one RBI and went 1-for-1 with an average of .406. Black said, "He was the right guy in the right spot. He jumped on a first-pitch fastball."
Reds’ batters were able to yield only two runs in a series finale. Travis Wood pitched just over six innings and gave away one run, five hits, one earned run and three walks on his 98 pitches. However, a decent team effort gave the Reds the series win against
the struggling Padres.
