MLB Season Review: Cleveland Indians crush Detroit Tigers 3-0 in three-game series
American League’s Cleveland Indians and Detroit Tigers faced each other in an exciting three-game series. Indians were incredible and did a noteworthy job as they completed a 3-0 victory in the series after beating the Tigers comfortably.
Let us take a short summary and see how the Indians swept the Tigers.
Game 1 – April 29: Detroit Tigers 5 – Cleveland Indians 9
Indians directed a 9-5 win in the first game, as Jeanmar Gomez was impressive with his pitching. He had four strike-outs with an ERA of 6.23 in the Indians impressive victory. Tigers’ manager, Jim Leyland said, “He said he had plenty left. I wanted to make
sure he was all right. He's one of my horses. He deserved to be out there. The guy hit a home run.”
Tigers’ batters were able to take just five runs in the series starter. Max Scherzer threw beautifully for the Tigers but that was not enough to secure a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only seven batters on his 105 pitches and permitted six
hits with five earned runs.
Game 2 – April 30: Detroit Tigers 2 – Cleveland Indians 3
During the second game, Indians overcame the Tigers 3-2. Indians’ starter, Alex White threw the ball in good line as he pitched six innings and surrendered just two runs and six hits on his 109 pitches. White had four strike-outs with an ERA of 3.00.
Indians’ manager, Manny Acta said, “An outstanding April. Now we'll see what May brings. This is behind us. He kept his composure and his pitches had good sink, good life.”
Tigers struggled with the bat and scored just two runs until the end of the game. Rick Porcello had a bad day with the ball as he threw seven innings with an ERA of 4.25 and gave away seven hits, two runs, one walk, two homers and two earned runs on his
100 pitches.
Game 3 – May 1: Detroit Tigers 4 – Cleveland Indians 5
During the final game of the series, Tigers lost 5-4. Indians’ second baseman Orlando Cabrera shined as he completed two runs including one RBI and went 2-for-3 with an average of .294. Indians’ starter, Justin Masterson pitched seven innings and allowed
seven hits, three runs and two earned runs including seven strike-outs.
Tigers were able to contribute only four runs in the series finale and failed to avoid a clean sweep against the Indians. Phil Coke pitched six innings and gave away two runs, four hits, two earned runs and two walks on his 97 pitches. However, a brilliant
team effort kept the Indians on top against the incompatible Tigers throughout the series.
