MLB Season Review: Cleveland Indians edge out Oakland Athletics 2-1 in three-game series
American League’s Cleveland Indians and Oakland Athletics battled it out in an exciting three-game series. Indians were astonishing and did a striking job as they completed a 2-1 victory in the series after hammering the Athletics comfortably.
Let us take an overview of these three games and see how the Indians dominated the Athletics.
Game 1 – May 3: Cleveland Indians 4 – Oakland Athletics 1
Indians managed a 4-1 win in the series starter, as Fausto Carmona was impressive with his pitching. He had five strike-outs with an ERA of 4.43 in the Indians convincing victory. Matt LaPorta said, “I think we do a great job as a ballclub once we get between
the lines, it's baseball, it's business. We've done a great job at that this year.”
Athletics’ batters were able to put in only one run in the opening game. Tyson Ross threw beautifully for the Athletics but that was not adequate to earn a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only three batters on his 97 pitches and permitted eight
hits with one earned run.
Game 2 – May 4: Cleveland Indians 1 – Oakland Athletics 3
During the second game, Athletics defeated the Indians 3-1. Athletics’ starter, Trevor Cahill threw the ball in good line as he pitched seven innings and surrendered three walks and five hits on his 116 pitches. Cahill had five strike-outs with an ERA of
1.79.
Speaking to reporters, Cahill said, “As a pitcher, you're kind of glad they haven't hit yet. We're floating around .500 and the offense hasn't even come out of its shoes.”
Indians struggled with the bat and were able to take only one run until the end of the game. Josh Tomlin had an average day with the ball as he threw just over seven innings with an ERA of 2.43 and gave away three hits and three runs with only five strike-outs
on his 99 pitches.
Game 3 – May 5: Cleveland Indians 4 – Oakland Athletics 3
During the final game of the series, Athletics lost 4-3. Indians’ short-stop Asdrubal Cabrera shined as he struck two RBIs and went 2-for-5 with an average of .270. Indians’ starter, Jeanmar Gomez pitched just over five innings and allowed only one run and
six hits including one strike-out.
Athletics were able to score only three runs in the series finale and failed to take over the Indians. Athletics’ starter, Brett Anderson pitched nine innings and gave away two runs, seven hits and two earned runs including five strike-outs on his 114 pitches.
However, a tremendous team effort kept the Indians on top against the Athletics throughout the series.
